I went from a 2003 Gti 1.8t to my new 2.5l Passat. I love it. It was a choice in comfort over speed. I'm happy.

Anyone go from a GTI to Passat? I have a '11 GTI 6psd and "like" it more than I can say "love" it sometimes. I sold one of my BMW e30s to buy the GTI. Then after a while, found a Miata that was too good of a deal to pass. So my current fleet; GTI, Miata and e30 convertible. Now I'm a point where I feel like I could go with something more practical, hence a Passat.
I found a 2.5 5spd SE that I think will satisfy me on my daily drive and trips, with the toys ready to go on the side.
I do a lot of driving and feel like it would suit daily driver duties a little more comfortably than a GTI. Am I over-thinking all of this?:face palm:
Thanks for the feedback![]()

I had a gti 337 from 2002-2006 and ended up with 350hp+ and a bunch of track days when I was done with it. Now I have a tdi passat and 2 kids. Couldn't be happier![]()

It's funny, prior to my GTI, I had a Jetta 2.0 and Jeeps. So going WOT on a daily basis is not part of my usual routine. For a brief time I had a '08 Rabbit and the combo of 2.5 and manual was good for me. There are moments that I think I will miss having the 2.0 (wish VW placed it in the Passat!).
I will go test drive it tomorrow and see how it goes![]()

Coming from an 05 1.8t Gti with all bolt ons and tune. I do enjoy the Passat due to its comfort and room.. but I do miss hearing that turbo spool and changing my own gears
All in all.. very happy with my Passat!

I had a "10 GTi which I loved.
But we traded the routan for a hybrid for the wife and needed a larger kid hauler so the Passat was a nice compromise for me.

Went from a GLI to passat... I miss the 2.0T DSG combo quite a bit. That would make the passat a competition-less smash!! I miss the engine not the GLI.. the passat is a nice cruiser but the 2.5 is what it is in a car of that size.. even though it weighs less than my 09 jetta body.
all in all 2.5 is adequate as a daily driver

Went from a 1.8t GTi to 3.6 Passat, and I can say I love the Passat. The GTi was an excellent car, but it in no way compares to the power and ride comfort of the Passat.

Still own a 20th GTi. Don't think I could sell it b/c it would get totaled soon after.
Added a Passat TDI SEL to the fleet.

I've had 3 MKI GTIs....1 MKII....2 MKIVs (including a 337)....and a really, really, REALLY RED MT, 4-door MKVI (OEM Bi-Xenons w/ AFS, Dynaudio, Interlagos cloth, Stage 1 APR, H&Rs, rear sway bar)!!!
The replacement is a 3.6 B7..... Its comfortable, with certainly enough rear legroom for my ever-growing son. Its fun enough.....not NEARLY as fun as the MKVI. But, hell, I realized that at 33 MPG, I definitely wasn't beating on the GTI enough to justify owning it!
So now if I wanna row through gears, I take out the slow 'n low Cabrio-Haaaaaaaaaaay!

Lots of ex (or still) GTi owners here. That's a good thing, right?![]()

I own both - a 2012 GTI and a 2012 SE VR6.
Comparing the two is impossible - the GTI is a fun nimble all around car, the Passat is my luxobarge (okay maybe not THAT luxo but come on... prev. sedan was a Camry!).
Performance wise - stock for stock, a VR6 will trump a GTI - no questions asked. But a Stage 1 GTI will probably edge the Passat.
