Thread: ABA turn signal issue

  1. 04-29-2012 07:53 PM #1
    tried in the ABA thread with no luck

    i am not getting turn signals to work. i am full CE2 conversion, and i spliced 3 wires hoping for turn signals

    Turn signal right - Blk/Green
    Turn signal Left - Blk/wht
    Hazard switch/turn signal switch - Blk/Wht/Grn

    am i missing something here? i really wana sort this out before i start driving around

    using mk1 stalks? Splices right in. www.a2resource.com is your friend.

    Always make sure to properly solder and wrap accordingly

    im still having trouble here.

    Here is what i have spliced in

    Colormatched
    BLK/GRN
    BLK/WHT
    BLK/WHT/GRN

    I have spliced the WHT (CE1 Flasher relay input) to WHT/YLW (CE2 flasher relay power/Input)

    but there are 2 wires i belive to be the source of my problem

    RED/WHT (ce1 Main fusebox battery power)

    BLK/BLU ( CE2 Emergency flasher turn signal power)

    The black and blue wire on my mk1 interior harness only hade a spade end on it and did not go into any plugs, im guessing this could be my issue, where does the BLK/BLU wire go into the mk1 wiring? the flasher switch maybe? do i need the RED/WHT wire spliced into anything?

    I have an ABA, full CE2 in my jetta w/ original stalks... Yours sounds right but I can take some photos of my wiring or at least check maybe tmrw evening if you still haven't got it figured by then.

    I used mk1 bently, mk3 bently, and a2resource for my wiring; don't recall anything being funky, it was pretty straight forward.

    Can you describe the problem any better? In what way don't they work? Do they light up and not blink? Don't light up at all? Only one one side?

    What are you losing at your sockets? Power? Ground?

    i am not getting anything at all. no lights, no blinking, nothing.

    Il do my best to make this as easy as possible

    Ill sart with the wiring stalk, out of the MK1 turn signal stalk, i have 3 wires leaving

    BLK/WHT - Turn signal Left
    BLK/GRN - Turn signal Right
    BLK/WHT/GRN - Flasher relay output

    From the light stack, those 3 wires go into the flasher switch located on the dash, the plug is in the shape of an L

    From the flasher switch, these wires come out of, and i will list where they are spliced to

    BLK/WHT spliced into BLK/WHT ( Red plug H2/06)
    BLK/GRN spliced into BLK/GRN (red plug H/04)
    BLK/WHT/GRN spliced into BLK/WHT/GRN (H2/08)

    RED/WHT loose end, no splice

    WHT (Flasher relay input) spliced into WHT/YLW (Flasher relay power input, plug: J/08)

    BLU/GRY - loose, dash lights

    Looks like you're on the right track...

    I took a quick look back at my bentlys and used the printouts of a2resource (CE1 & CE2) to cross reference. I have listed below what they should be (granted, I have no idea what year you're aba or mk1 is)

    The turn signal to flasher switch seems perfectly correct.

    The back of the flasher switch is labeled with DIN Numbers (which are conveniently listed in the bentlys)

    EFS = Emergency Flasher Switch

    EFS#R => Comes in from turn signal switch (TSS) and out to H02/04
    EFS#L => Comes in from TSS and out to H02/06
    EFS#49a => Out to H02/08
    EFS#49 => Out to J/08
    EFS#15 => Out to H01/05 (it's fuse 17 in CE2 --- fuse 19 in CE1) (This is START/RUN power)
    EFS#30 => Out to J/04 (it's fuse 4 in CE2 --- some other fuse in CE1, I don't recall; mostly because I forgot to write it down) (This is Main Battery Power)
    EFS#58b => Dash Lights
    EFS#31 => Ground

    The MK3 1995 ABA wiring I referenced in pics below

    The MK1 wiring I referenced is a 1984 Jetta GLi because that's what I have. (pic below)

    (sorry - cell phone pics and blurry... I was fighting with my cat trying to take these; should be clear enough to see what I am talking about)

    Also did you check the flasher relay? etc? Sometimes it's the simple crap....
