I need to get another PCI-e x1 wireless adapter...

I have an ASUS N300, which has been working fine for me, but has questionable reviews.

    Any recommendations for a PCI-e x 1 wireless adapter?

Is there a big difference in performance between PCI-e, PCI, and USB?

I was thinking of trying the Rosewill $10 card, but then I remembered, that my barely used Rosewill USB wireless adapter crapped out on me. I got about a weeks use out of it.

    Thanks!

I was more than satisfied with an EnGenius EUB-362 USB WiFi adaptor for a couple of years after using a few others including a Linksys USB adaptor, a PCMCIA card device and one other USB device; can't recall the brand. Then Engenius came out with their EUB9603H USB adaptor which is significantly more sensitive than the EUB-362. Both are not very expensive. A feature of a USB adaptor that makes it more versatile than a PCI card device is that with an active USB extention cable you can move the antenna to a location where it works better if you have a marginal strength signal where you want to locate your PC or laptop. I have used mine during travel with two 15' active extension cables in series.

I recall one time when the motel where we stayed had $10 per day WiFi but with an EUB-362 I was able to pick up an unkeyed signal from another motel that I could not see that was located on the other side of a motel next to ours. It was almost a half block away.

The EUB9603H has provision to connect to two USB ports but I use just the single main connection and it works very well for me.

C Crane has some WiFi products that appear to be impressive but I have no experience with them.

    Thanks man!

That's exactly the kind of information, that I'm looking for.

I bought this one and it works quite well.

TP-LINK TL-WN722N Wireless Adapter High Gain IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates Support 64/128 bit WEP, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, Wireless MAC Filtering

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833704045

    $18

Only down side is it tends to block other usb ports that are close by, or the antena interferes with a usb stick in an adjacent port because they are the same length.

Thanks, I almost bought that at newegg, but hesitated when the free stand offer had expired.

Are you running WEP, or a form of WPA?

My garage is about a 100 feet from my house, and about 120' from the wireless router.

I'm looking at one of these, mounted to the front of the garage, next to the VW sign, practically within line of sight of the wireless router:

Btw, I'm glad I didn't get the $10 Cisco USB adapter, after reading the reviews, it sounds like it likes to randomly disconnect itself for no apparent reason, which would drive me nuts, and would create all kinds of problems with Laurie using it.

    Thanks!

I'm running WPA2 Personal with AES/TKIP enabled. Long password. Routers running a flavor of DD-WRT. Its a 54g system, although the usb dongle is N.

Are you running G or N? For those ranges N should be used I'd think.

I was running N, but then I switched to FIOS, which is G, and my N router would not work by plugging it in the G router, and I quickly gave up on it.

I just went from 2 bars to 4 bars in my bedroom, by going to an external antenna.
