Weekend AutoX.

A little fun this weekend. I learned vey quick that a big turbo car doesn't like small autocross courses. I was never able to get out of 2nd gear. Nevertheless a had a great time and met some good people.

looks like fun man, atleast if there was a long enough straight you will be gettign up there in mph with the corvettes haha I remember that at one event I was hitting 80mph and everyone else was 60 - 65mph

Big turbo definitely makes it harder to drive in the Autox

I think wider tires are in order for next year. I didn't hit a single cone, but I guess that means I didn't push hard enough.

well I have run 235's and 245's and it makes a bid difference. but more so if you are on top of the air pressure once they get hot and adjust a little.

yeah, and dont get too close to those damn cones if you are not really competing...... sometimes you get carried away by the adrenaline, I have hit a few and my bumper hates me for that....... In my case I think it adds character because the R is my racecar/fun/drive like a madman car and not my show car by any means.

Mine isn't either, the bumper has been sewn together with zip ties.

I definitely could have stayed on the skinny pedal a lot more. I wasn't braking much. On the long straight I redlined second then coasted into the s curve, when I could have stayed on the throttle. I could have kept the slalom tighter. I should have taken the second to last turn a little wider. Now I'm analyzing everything I did and how I could shave some time off. Too bad the course will be different next time. This state needs a road course!!!

I know all those guys, I'm a member of SCCV. They do a couple road course events @ SLMP, however it's a 12 hour drive round trip. If I join SCCNH I can to do NHMS. All things I would like to do, it would just be nice to not have to go so far. However If I want to do hill climbs there are 8 of those in the state, but I would have to have a 6 point cage, minimum. I still daily drive my .:R.

well there are ups and down of autox courses changing every time ..... in auto x events for the most part you have 3 times in the course usually and thats it when you race for points, which is good so you learn to push your car from the beginning (once you have done it several times). if you want repetitiveness look for practice events, those will get you a huge amount of times out in the course and you really learn a TON from ridealongs with other experienced drivers.

it is rare when I have done less than 12 passes on a practice session (All day session) at least 6 passes on the morning heat, break for lunch and other 6 passes in the afternoon.

reason why you get so many passes is that specific clubs set practice days and usually not too many cars attend. On a race for points, regional or whatever there will be tons of cars there.

good to see threads consisting of people driving their car hard....

looks like fun. As for the tire size, i jumped from stock 225's on a 7.5" wheel to a 245 on an 8" wheel and the car feels more sloppy in turn ins and sketchy in drastic weight transfers (quick direction changes). The car feels slower, but times show i am usually 2-5 seconds faster per lap than on 225's.

figured I would bump this thread up with this weekends visit to a local short track oval turned into an auto-x course. Last run got 4th of 13 in SMS (SM w/ street tires, local class), .03 out of third... fun tight little course, The R's torque kept me in the lead until the high rpm cars figured out to use 1st more

We did the Dragon Run with WITW, the car was kinda boring cause it handled very well. Still got a few issues. Switching from heims in the rear to poly's and added UM mounts with Defcon #2 upfront. Very happy with the car. Chasing a vibration and a clunk this week. Haldex is stuck in AWD, looking at a COMP Controller from HPA. Found a head with 100 miles, looking to build that head then get a UM tune from JEFF.

I guess a mild port and polish with a mild cam plus those new double springs will get me right. Got the head for cheap, figured I'd build it right. Jeff said get all the power we can from the N/A motor. Once everything is on point I can entertain some BOOST.

We looking at 1 year for the head to be built and maybe 2 years before I consider boosting the car. Wanna get everything else ready in the meantime
