Yes and yes. If your not making a bunch of power or your not Turbo, there is no reason to vent the vavlecover. Just use the stock breather in the block.

I want to do a catch can on my stock 2l 16v. I am kind of unsure where to start. Can i just use the stock block breather and hook that up to a catch can and then run a vent with a filter on the end under the vehicle. And then block the original hookup from the block breather to the intake?
Do I need to run the valve cover breather from a newer beetle?
Just some pictures of your setup would help.

if you are still running stock injection, and a mostly stock engine, leave it alone
