That's gotta be loud! I'll have the driver door open, toss my keys on the seat and go open my hood or something and 5 seconds later she locks herself. I've learned to keep the keys on me or the door open if possible.

    03 GLI

Armrest...wtf were they thinking? I am 5' 11" with big hands and it is still uncomfortable to shift w/ that armrest...it's ok, but....not solid. Also, seats...anyone who works out knows that your lats are too big to fit...gotta let one in and one out lol.

The weight...granted the car always feels nice and solid, and when you use thing like the vents and controls they don' feel like cheap pieces of ****, and neither does the dash, but...3k? dang. Plus all the noise it makes for being so solid.

First gear....could be like...slightly longer. I know that this is short-sighted most likely, and I also try and stay below 4k rpm for my commute all week, but damn, seems like they could have made it SLIGHTY longer...not like it's losing torque by the end of it.

    1.8t vacuum system.

    limited 6sp options.

    immobilizers.

    here we got a 90hp diesel 5sp that had 90hp and 5sp

europe got 110hp, 6sp, 4motion, that got better mileage. Might be an imperial to us gallon, but still, come on.

made it to 126k without ever having any work done, other than oil, so im happy with the durability

150bhp from an engine WITH a turbo.. the fact that no matter what engine a mk4 has they slapped the GTI badge on basically anything that wasnt a 1.6 haha.

my other moans are from modifying the car, so i guess they dont count haha

next time ur in ur car look at the door pull/switch cover, back plate for the heat/a/c controls, area around the light switch as well as other areas. If there are any scratches etc you'll notice its coated with this rubbery paint coating stuff, which is the "soft touch" why they put this on here who knows, what was wrong with the same colored plastic underneath it?

I bought my Jetta in 1999. Yes, tapes were still listened to back then and this cool thing called a CD Changer that I had installed in my trunk from the dealer.

Go and watch the "Synchronicity" VW commercial on youtube.

    As for my hatelist:
    - MAF's
    - O2 sensors
    - door lock module
    - window regulators
    - broken cupholder
    - broken glovebox hinge
    - softtouch plastic
    - airbag sensors
    - Fuel door motor (first year problem)
    - Seat springs falling out
    - Poor design of cupholder placement on early models
    - No recirculation on climate controls in certain modes
    - oil consumption on early 2.0's.
    - Rear seat cramped
    - 01M
