Hey guys, Ive searched thru the other oil change threads to find the right oil weight for the 2012 N/A Tiguan, and there seems to be a mix of different types/weights being used. What is the being put into the Tiguans at the factory? I assume it is a fully synthetic oil. And if I read correctly the engine oil capacity is 5 quarts?

I'm a DIY when it comes to oil changes and being this is my first VW ever, I'm not very knowledgable about this subject for VW's. Are there any special tools needed or anything quirky about accessing and/or removing the engine oil drain bolt? What does the drain bolt look like and where is its location? I see from peeking under the hold that the filter is right there out in the open, easily accessible while standing up, which is an uber awesome plus for me! When removing the filter do I need to have a rag ready for any typical spillage?

And what is this Haldex system or whatever it is that I read people talking about? It has something to do with the 40,000 mile service? <== I found my answer about the Haldex, Haldex equal 4MOTION.

      Any insight would be appreciated!

You need a T45 torx bit.

Not sure what oil came in the car, but I used Valvoline SynPower 5W-40

I guess mine is different!!!! Model Year 2010 2.0TSI 4Motion

Manual says 4.7 liters (oil filter changed) which should be around 4.5 US quarts.

You should use any oil that complies with VW 502 00 standard (look for it on oil's bottle). I use Castrol 0W30.

You must remove the skid plate first to access the drain plug. (I guess 19mm Hex to remove plug)

If you do not change the drain plug, at least ,change the washer.

I checked the oil filler cap and theres no writing on it all all, I think there was a symbol that mean to refer to the owner's manual. But there is a sticker near the top of the front bumper, and i think it says the same thing as you mentioned, chicoze. it mentions, VW 502 00. and in my manual it says the oil capacity is 5.9 qts with oil filter, that seems to be quite a lot for a 2.0L, so im going to double check that capacity tonight when i get home.

Here's my new UOA from Mobil 1 0w-30 SL (old)
verses Edge 5w-30 SM on bottom.
      4100miles on both

Similar numbers, except lower Nitration on this sample.

Bottom line, thin 30 weight works fine, 2 for 2 here.
