awesome! any etc of the restoration? im guessing it will be displayed at the museum there?
Yup. I have some more of the restoration including the wings, ball turrets and the r1820s.
She will be displayed statically along with the Swoose which is the oldest B17 in existence. The Shoo Shoo Baby which is arguable the best restored will be moved to the Udvar Hazy museum. I was sad that it was only going to be a static display until the Liberty Belle went down in flames. Will post later.
Good to see it again! Born and raised in Memphis. She used to sit in a field by the airport and you could see it from Winchester Ave. When I was about 8 or 10, I'm 35 now, they moved it from the airport to a pavilion downtown on Mud Island. They let people walk through it before they disassembled it. I bet I crawled from the bomb sight to the tail turrett 4 or 5 times! They gave it a half ass paint job and it sat downtown, where it went to ****. I was really saddened when they took it away. Great pictures!!! I'll stay tuned, and would love to see more pics. I'm going to give my dad the link, also a Memphis native, he'd love it too....
I live in Toledo, my parents live in Cincinnati. Fortunately for me, it's a straight shot down I75 right through Dayton. I would go every weekend but the progress is sllooooow and my gf already spent 6 hours at the museum a few months ago.
I never knew that actress was named after an airplane until I went to the restoration hanger...of course I didn't know who she was anyways, but pretty cool.
They recently had a reunion of the 5 remaining Doolittle Raiders. There were 25 B-25s that flew in and landed at Wright Pat....I f'ing missed it though I could only imagine the awesomeness.
