Have any of you guys seen the Nova series on the Kee Bird (available on youtube)? It is HEARTBREAKING! If anyone is interested in WW2 aircraft and finding them, I would highly recommend the book "Hunting Warbirds"

Those guys were completely unprepared to get that '29 off the ground. I'm still angry at them for their slipshod fu_kup.

"Jury-rigged" fuel tank for the APU? WT actual F? You don't "jury-rig" anything on a B-29 that's been sitting in the middle of BFE for almost 50 years.

    *sigh*

Thanks for the book recommendation. It's on my list now.

Yeah, I've seen it. Those guys were idiots.

Not to mention it would've just been cheaper to split the plane into a couple of chunks (tail, body, L wing, R wing) and Sikorsky Sky-Crane that **** outta there.

    Word.

Come to think of it, had they actually managed to take off, they all would have died as jelly in a flaming hole in the ground after a rapid descent from whatever altitude to the scene of the crash.

They cut corners, insisting on the glory of flying out of the frozen wasteland instead of doing it right. Wow. No more cowboys are allowed to fiddle with priceless relics.

I sure hope you're right. Perhaps the folks working on the Spitfires in Burma are being patient and methodical, precisely what the Kee Bird krew failed at.

Agreed. The whole operation was half-assed. In my limited experience with the warbird community, I've noticed that there is a lot of half-assedness. Kinda' surprising, really, since so much money is thrown around.
