This is my first post and I was going to introduce myself but I'm daft and couldn't find an intro thread.

    First, here's my car

    91 Gti vr6 swap. 96 obd1 12v with some goodies.
Now down to business, I've found answers here many many times and there always logical and I'd like to say thank you. I am however having a somewhat loud ticking coming from this--. (Silver cover on rote side of motor)
It only does it after its gotten warm and will eventually quiet if left at idol. I'm completely lost and would appreciate you opinions. Thanks- Matt

A ticking VR6 is a running VR6. Seriously, they ALL tick. If it's really bad, you may have to replace your lifters, but most tick even with new parts. Just be sure it's not a knock which may be bottom end related.

Nice Mk2 you got there, looks really clean.

My 2.9L BVH build and the machine shop #%@- up that almost ruined it all.

Thank you. I figured. I have an obd2 12v mk3 jetta as a winter car n it ticks but not like that as far as I remember. It's not a knock just a tick. so I'm not Gona worry about it. Thank you!

Ahh a WNY guy eh? Lol nice mk2. Yea unless its a deep knock/tick i woudlnt worry too much. Maybe throw a heavier weight oil in it and it might go away(helps with those higher miles) lol. GL

Don't throw that lucas crap in there if the motor is good.

I'm betting the tick you are hearing is actually the idler pulley, or another pulley. I have a loud tick ontop of the normal valve tap, and thought it was coming from the same area too, and when I put pressure on my idler it goes away.

I'll have to check out the idler. I'm changing the oil before SOWO anyway so I'll put a heavier weight oil in. Thanks for the help guys!
