Bump

So I am considering making the jump... Not set in stone, but its been on my mind a lot :roll eyes:
Right now I am APR Stage 2+, and hooking up Water/Meth soon to run a 100 octane file
That being said, I want more. What should I be looking at as far:
Clutch goes? (what are you guys running??)
Internals? (anything I should be looking to do??)
Any other suggestions? I don't want to go big turbo. I want something daily enough and reasonably priced, so thats why I want to go KO4. Note: I also want to run a 100 octane file on the KO4 so bear that in mind
#3
You just need the KO4 set up then. IIRC, upgrade your injectors, intercooler, ko4 w/ manifold, reflash for the ko4 set up and still run your w/m.
You only need to change internals if you go BT.
#4
How about clutch work? Car has 78k on it now, so Im not sure how it will hold up
#5
#6
Really?? I've honestly never heard that soon? Considering my mk4 vr6 went to 136k and is still going strong
#7
well i guess it just really depends on your driving habbits, my old subaru the clutch would go around 70k because i drove it like the wind, but i also used to work at repair shops and its recomended every 80k.
it sounds like you have alot of miles on your clutch and i would definitly replace it if your going ko4
#8
How much faster is the k04 than stg 2, really?
Is it worth it?
#10
APR lists stage 2 at 270hp (with only the required supporting modifications) and list stage 2+ at 280hp. They list their k04 upgrade at around 325-330hp if I'm remembering correctly.
So roughly a 40-50hp gain![]()

Engineers do it better.

I guess I meant, were you happy with just the stg 2? or how long did it take to want to go for the k04? Once you got the k04, did it reallty feel like that big of a jump? Like stg2 vs stock or more like stg2 vs stg1? Did you feel that it was really worth it in the end to go for it?
Also, how is anyone putting that kind of power down? I feel like the car needs more rubber and a lsd even with stock power. I would definitely get a lsd before even thinking of k04
#14
Hence why I asked (clutch, internals, limited slip... So on. Trying to do my research before I go any direction) as far as stage 1 vs stage 2+ I was extremely impressed. But as impressed as I was, it only made me want more.. So hence why I want to go ko4. Stage 3 is simply too much money, and a ko4 I feel like is perfect
#15
an LSD is not needed for a KO4 mainly for BT's. It's definitely helpful though.
#16
You'll find a lot more useful information and the answers you're looking for if you just google "fsi k04" or something similar. I just did this for hours during the dumb hours of the night thanks to a Rockstar.![]()
#17
Is this something that's commonly done?
I wouldn't recommend using a tune for a higher octane than you're going to be running. Water/meth injection and 93 octane is not equivalent to 100 octane fuel.
The tune is set to advance timing, thinking you will be running the correct octane, and will only slightly adjust it by pulling timing in order to prevent knock. Not safe.
You should really only be using water/meth in our cars to keep boosted air temps closer to ambient temps, since we cannot tune specifically for the addition of the water/meth.

dumbest advice I've heard all week. Here I am @ 105k miles stage 2 and tuned for over 80k miles of those 105k with a perfectly fine non slipping original clutch and I should change it routinely at 80k miles because if it fails or starts slipping later I'll have to do a catastrophic clutch replacementIf you have no reason to pull the tranny and the clutch is not slipping leave it alone! you might go another 50k miles with a k04. Might only go another 10k but you have zero to lose by waiting and a whole lot of potential usages out your current clutch assuming its trouble free now.
#21
another go around for some more input... Any body have any clutch recommendations? I've looked at several companies just like getting real world feedback before I make a comittment
#22
dude, i've had my k04 on for about 15/20k or so (can't remember unless i check the car) and there is NO NEED for an upgraded clutch in it. the car feels great for daily commuting and great when you get on it. just get the k04, s3 injectors, a dv reroute kit/s3 dv kit/or an intake with a bung for the dv reroute, an aftermarket intercooler (oem s3 will suffice just fine), and call it a day. youll be zippin around on your w/m no problem.
if you want more/better info, go to the fsi engine forum on here. lots of k04 intel for you to peep at. I spend more time in there than i do in here, haha.

Yeah absolutely no need for a clutch replacement, I'm stage 2 with 145k+ on my stock clutch and it is an strong as brand new. Earlier MKVs have a stronger clutch anyway.
#24
ko4 for about 10k already i love it once u get all of the hikups out....clutch i have not changed out and working very well
ko4'ed APR tuned track times coming soon
#25
explain what hiccups? just out of curiosity, i know there will be things to smooth out but just like the leg up to know what to expect
#26
had some sputtering issues and car loosing power at times but with help frm a friend some new plugs and i dont know what else he did it ran smooth...flashed it with the k04 file and felt weird flashed it again with same file and worked good just make sure everything is up to par
ko4'ed APR tuned track times coming soon

Yea and then it gives like a million sites that say its some sort of turbo upgrade but doesn't really tell me what it is. It a whole new turbo? Idk a lot about he turbo engines on our cars because I have a 2.5, so I just thought I'd ask. If you don't want to answer then there's really no reason to reply at all right?
#30
there is a reason to post and that reason is the information is right at your fingertips, literally in this case. If you don't know what it is or cannot get an idea of if from the posts in the thread just Google. I understand that you have a 2.5L so in your everyday life turbo talk or specifically the k04 may not be something you run into but the fact still remains that you can search for information. Educating yourself on any given topic is relatively easy these days, though my first comment may have come across mildly obnoxious and for that i am sorry, but the message is still valid.
OP- i apologize for thread basically thread jacking and won't stray from the original thread anymore. MasterJetti08 if you have anything else to say specifically to me please feel free to pm me so that we don't clutter up this thread that's actually informative.![]()

Google or no Google, this forum is here to answer questions, that's why its a COMMUNITY.
The K04 that we're talking about is simply the stock turbo that is run in the Euro edition GTI (ED30) and the Euro S3. It's pretty much just a straight bolt on turbo and as long as you buy the recommended upgrades (intercooler, exhaust, software, etc), then it's bitchin to drive. It makes you go fast![]()

Thank you. That's all I wanted to know. Cluttering the thread? Wouldn't have been cluttered had he question just been answered...lol. Thanks again guesswho.

This thread has been jacked .....while we are talking upgrades i have a couple quick questions?
How fast is ko4 upgrade? I have a apr1 and I already drive way tooo fast. I can just imagine what a ko4 feels like. Where are you going to actually be able to open her up with out getting arrested? Other than a race track.
I like to hear numbers ?
How much $ on avg for these upgrades? Just off your head with labor? I under stand all the parts I just want off your head avg. numbers? So I can have an idea.....
Apr 2 ?
Apr 3 ?
Ko4 ?
Big turbo ?
Thank you thank you

OK, on a Mustang dyno I made 323hp to the wheels. Do I think that's accurate? Nope... But it feels damn close to that and is BEYOND a blast to drive... I pieced my kit together for about $1,200. Some parts bought off of the classifieds and some bought through online vendors. I did the install myself (fairly easy if you're the least bit mechanically inclined since it's pretty much just a straight swap... for the most part) so I didn't have to pay an install fee. I think I've heard of an average being around 700-1k. Takes about 2-3 days depending on your "motivation".
Here's the parts list I made for myself (copy and pasted from one of my "stickies". not sure why i still have it, haha). Some you will need, some you won't. Again, this was just FOR ME. I'm not going to go through and erase stuff because I'm partly lazy... I will say you won't need #27. It already comes on the turbo but mine was broken when I got it. Oh, and you'll need AT LEAST a 3" down pipe, but I was stage 2 and already had one. Hope this helps.

Are S3 injectors also required for the TSI? Or only the FSI?
I also read that an S3 IC wasn't large enough for a K04
