Proud owner of a 2000 A8 with 125k miles bought a couple weeks ago in Juneau, Alaska. The various issues with it's past are slowly emerging as well as some nice bonuses. As a new member, I'll share what I can about my amazing car in the appropriate forum.

Today was my first day with a new Ross-Tech USB cable and it was VERY successful. Fixed a number of items! This thing is a charm.

I'm hoping to DISABLE my Parking Assist until I can get to hunting down the issues, i.e. the sensors and their problem.

Is there a program code (or chart) for vag-com to effectively quiet this 'feature'?

I'm hung up on the faults under-- 76 Parking Assist

These sensors may even be missing - there was a bad paint job done and I'm not sure what still exists behind the bumpers.

Any other ideas are welcomed. Thanks.

    Hello Peter,

If you are looking to completely disable the Park Assist system I suspect that module will need to be unplugged and the 17-Instrument cluster may need to be adapted so it isn't looking to communicate with it. Before you unplug any components please read the values of Adaptation Channels 060, 061 and 062 in the Instrument cluster and post the data here.

Although this page does NOT apply to the A8 I think the results will be similar:

ok, I'll bite: What about something less invasive, like turning down the volume of the parking assist?

I have to admit, I didn't see a specific parking related item on that page you linked. I'll have to spend some more time with the cable, software and the bentley manual before going too nuts with this.

I'm surprised at the rather empty ross-tech wiki for the A8 D2 as well as nothing for the 4.2l engine. More experiences on this particular issue (parking assist) are few and far betweeen in the forums I've searched. Lonely territory for me to wander off in...

    Thanks Dana

If you are looking to diagnose and repair the system rather than disable it, I would look for G253 and G254 in the repair manual (wiring diagrams and component locators) and see if this is a simple sensor or wiring issue. I do not know if the volume of the parking assist warning can be modified but if you want to experiment with that see if Adaptation channel 001 is available. If so, I suspect that may have a range of 1 through 9.

If several Adaptation channels are available please send maps as explained here in more detail:

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...ol_Module_Maps

Adaptation Channels 060, 061 and 062 may not exist in the Instrument cluster - but if they do you may find:

    1) Channel 060: CAN-Databus Powertrain
    2) Channel 061: CAN-Databus Comfort
    3) Channel 062: CAN-Databus Infotainment

.. "Installation Lists" which are a large sum of numbers that represent the installation of modules per installed databus. If you wanted to remove something from the vehicle and eliminate all warning lights and fault codes for that module - the respective channel would need to be modified after unplugging the optional system.

The Ross-Tech Wiki is experimental and will fill in the gaps when diagnostic procedures are not covered in the factory repair manual, but are included in the factory scan tool guided plans (which includes most 2004 + vehicles). Older platforms are typically covered in the repair manual sources - so those pages are not as complete but we will update VCDS label files when needed (such as the parking Adaptation channel map request above).

From BENTLEY -- Acoustic Parking System - on-board diagnostics

    Audi > A8/S8 > 1997 - 2003
    Electrical Equipment from m.y. 2000
On Board Diagnostic (OBD)Code Control Module (function 07) Using this function, the control module for parking aid can be coded as follows:

    Transmission type: Manual or automatic
Signal chime for reverse gear engaged: with or without function confirmation
Vehicle type: sedan, station wagon, S-version sedan (rest of world) etc.
    Vehicle model: e.g. Audi A8

Note: Via coding, the universally undifferentiated control module for parking aid -J446- can be specifically adjusted to the demands of the vehicle at hand.
