was to hit 25k miles - it just opened up and 800 miles later I'm still averaging 3-5mpg better. Anyone else notice this? I'm calculating by dividing fuel vs. miles traveled, not using the dash gauge (which is off by ~2mpg). That is all. 2010 Auto - same thing with prior car, 2008 rabbit 5mt. 2010 Auto has always gotten substantially better mileage than the manual ever did, but both got better around 25k miles.

I'm only at 8K right now, so I'm really glad to know it will only get better.
On average I get 30mpg (mixed driving) or about 400 miles before the fuel light comes on.
Dash tells a different story, it told me I was getting 39.6 mpg on my last hwy trip

I'm right in the middle of Orange County so I rarely get up to actual freeway speed

most of the time I've had the car freeway mileage (avg 75mph) was ~26-28mpg, but at constant freeway speeds I've been hitting 34mpg. This might also be because I've gotten less throttle happy, but I don't really think so.

i notice that as my car got really broken in and the ecu has adapted to my driving habits. i can tell my car was getting better mpg's on my 2009

The MFD is very accurate for me. Your method (which I often use as well) is only accurate if you know you are filling it up to the same exact level as you did before...

I find the MFD to be inaccurate for speed; I've also plugged in an OBD2 meter and gotten it's estimates for MPG, which are, again, different from the MFD and the actual results extrapolated from miles/volume of fuel. I've made sure the same gas pump was used, the outdoor temperature was within 2 degrees, parked in the same spot, etc. - bout as accurate as it's going to get lol
