Thread: Dealership vs. auto shop

  1. 05-02-2012 02:27 PM #1
What is everyones preference for a regular check-up & oil change, the vw dealer or a random auto shop or quick stop.

Anyone know of anywhere good around where I live? (possibly also for body work on a car, need a fender fixed) - Fairfield CT

    Just looking for some opinions.

    Cheers

I'm under warranty, so dealer for me for now... but I also feel that 10k is too long of an oil change interval, so I'm contemplating doing it myself... otherwise, I've had pretty good experience with firestone stores for routine maintenance (there will probably be several in your area, try a couple and see which one you like best)...

once I'm out of warranty, for any VW-specific mechanical repairs (that I can't do myself) I will go to a good local vw repair shop that was recommended to me by other local enthusiasts

For body work, ask the dealer which body shop they use. Otherwise, I've had decent experience with maaco (not that great tho). Or search body shop on google maps and read reviews

I go to an auto shop that has previous VW dealership techs working there. Therefore they can be certified and still give me the best price on services.
