I'm getting ready to move to Cali in July and I'm guessing I will need a front plate. When I bought the car in 08 they swapped out the bumper for one with no holes. Now that I'll have to go back, what is the cheapest best option for a front plate?

SB82, yeah it depends on what area of california you're going to be in. i live in norcal and ive been running around without a front plate with no issues. however, im usually in more suburban areas of the bay. if you're going to live in say, SF, you should definitely get a front plate.

can't speak for outside the bay area.

just moved away from the Olympic Peninsula, Wa. Pulled over for no front plate, $124 ticket, but my wife was driving, I wasn't with there...she talked her way out of it...said it was my car...

I drilled the front for a plate...it did hurt.

answer to post below, it was especially bad in a small town of 9K, all they had to do is check everybody out, and my car really stood out.

I lived in WA for 7 years... never an issue over two cars.

In California no front plate tickets are an equipment violation with no fine, same as window tint. You fix what u are cited for and get it signed off at any police station. There is a small processing fee of about 20-dollars. In my experience, most cops couldn't care less if u have the front plate. Unless you're a fugitive, u plan to drive drunk or transport drugs, dont bother with the front plate.

I'm moving to Pasadena. I'm also going to have the same issue on my Passat. I guess I might try to see how long I can get away with it.

My experience in the last few years differs markedly. I've gotten 1 front plate citation from Riverside county (have had front plates on since then). Many people I know have received citations throughout So Cal. When visiting San Diego, retired police officers were trolling the parking lot at Balboa Park giving out warnings for front plate violations.

Since CA went bankrupt, it's called revenue.

I've been pulled over multiple times in California for no front plate. I haven't been pulled over in the Audi, yet.
