Cam follower warranty specail extension on 2008 Passat 2.0TFSI?

Hi, my car is a 2008 passat 2.0t with the bpy.
I am 2nd owner, car had 105k km mileage. have timing belt change, cam follower change last week and find the cam follower have hole in it already.
Bring my car to VW (Ottawa, Canada) today. They said I have 2 recall (intake motor and PCV), one warranty extension on transmission but no special coverage on fuel pump nor cam. Anyone have experience to have them fix a 2008 or I am on my own. Thanks in advance!

the 2008 Passats should already have the harder rev B cam (my 2008 Passat does).

the warranty extension only applies to engines with the softer rev A cam.

Regular cam follower changes are required regardless of cam revsion

It does really suck for most owners as the only way they know to check it is if they happen to come to one of the forums since I don't think anyone at VW/Audi will tell them and it's not something you would expect to have to do.

Evidently the later version cam isn't always the magic fix.

I wonder about the R and if anything wil be different with them, I don't see why it would.

With only 105km (65k miles) I would call VW Corporate if you don't get anywhere with your dealer. This is close to the powertrain warranty with a problem they known problem.

Totally agree! I would not know if if I didn't go here or passat world. Here is how mine look at 105k km

I exchanged the hold-ed cam follower today after VW refused to cover it and took some pic. with help from DIY instruction, took me less than 1hr to do it.

Looks like you need a new pump too.

there is an extended warranty to 192000km. Just putting in a new follower wont solve much as you still have shards of the old one floating around in there.. put the old one back in and get back to the dealership.

warranty extension is only for 2007 bpy. 2008 already have the updated cam.

I'm not so sure this is true as mine is a 2007 BPY and it has the updated cam. They (VW) say it's under extended warranty to 192000km so i dont see why the OP wouldn't qualify..?

Im not sure, your car may be outside the vin range for the extension, thus having a updated cam I would have to see it to tell. Did yours have to have the cam/hpfp/follower repair?. I have the warranty extension in front of me it only goes to 2007 bpys. 2008 and up would have to be in powertrain warranty still I think to qualify for repair. But there may be cars out there that are outside the vin range or year range and still have the old style cam or follower issues. Im sure that happens from time to time.
