Thread: Seeking advice

  1. 05-02-2012 08:49 PM #1
    Hi,
I have "91 GTI 16V, and I am working on the back brakes.
Is there a way to work a piston back into the caliper for installation without a special VW tool?
    Many thanks,
    Vlad

It's not a special VW Tool. Many makes of cars require the same tool to retract the pistons in the rear calipers.

The tool sets come with adapters to use the tool on many different makes of cars.

You can usually borrow to tool set from a auto parts store with a tool loan program.

Or you could just buy the tool set. Harbor Freight has them for $40 (use a 20% Off Coupon from a magazine or the Sunday newspaper to lower the cost more).

if its a turn in style piston, I use an adjustable angle grinder wrench. like this one but available anywhere tools are sold.
