Ok, so Im doing the radiator fans. When I pulled out the fans, I notcied that the hose coming from what I think is the A/C has a tear in the outside of it, but its not ruined by any means. I slapped everything back together and doubled checked when the I got the front end back on that the hose with wear on it is sitting right on the aux fan.
Is this where that hose goes? Cause if so...im kinda screwed..

    this is the hose

here is the cut or wearing out of the hose from what I guess was the old fan

There was a recall on the lower hoses, but nothing on the upper. Could of been a past repair that left the hose out of the correct position or loose fan shroud, maybe worn mounts letting the motor push the hose into the fan.

At first, I thought that I didnt get the shroud to fit right, but it makes we wonder if its even the right shround? All the screws lined up and it sits flush on the radiator. Than I thought I screwed up mounting the carrier back on, but that ****s flush as well. I wonder if it has a bracket thats supposed to keep that hose clear. Looking closer at the hose, you can see the dents on it from where it sat on the fan. Ive only had the car for a month and the weather hasnt been to bad out here in ptown for me to turn on the A/C, but trying to troubleshoot a P0103 I noticed the fans don't spin. So far I just zipped tied it out of the way

red-wagen, when you got it the hose replaced, did you get a longer one, or they did just re-route it?

    bolide,
Is there a way to see if the mounts are shot? I mean besides the obvious worn down rubber, Could one notice if the motor itself is sitting forward to much, like an alignment notch? Kinda dumb question but might as well ask

Silicone dripping out of the side mounts is a sure sign. Worn dog bone would allow lots of front to back rocking movement of the motor. Easiest way to look for motor movement is to have a friend watch it as you put it under load by slipping the clutch a bit against the e brake.

Would that also cause the shifter to move a bit? Happens when I let off the gas while car is still in gear.
The motor mounts are something I havent had a chance to look into yet...still gotta get the car past DEQ and P0103 is screwing that up for me.
    And thanks for your help

That is an A/C hose and as red-wagen says, VW sell it as a one piece part right around the engine bay.

However, any competent A/C workshop should be able to just replace the rubber hose part separately, if it is leaking now.

The top radiator hose down the bottom of the fans was the subject of a recall, so you may want to check you have the right piece down there as well now.

    Old hose with fan rubbing:

Mine wore through within 1100km of driving out of the showroom.

    Replacement hose with reinforced wrapping:

This view is looking straight down the back of the radiator - it rubbed on the fan on the left as you look down.

So its just a longer hose that wraps up and around the fans? Im not sure about the hoses on the bottom, but when I take the car to get my new MAF, I will ask if they did the recall on those as well.
    Thanks for your help

So I took in the .:R to the vw dealership to get my MAF and asked about the hose and to check to see if the fans work. I have to schedule an appointment just to have someone come outside and say, "yup...thats wrong."
I think that I will swing by a local shop trmw and see if I can't get someone to come out and give it a gander.
On another note, how long is the drive cycle for our car anyways? I unplugged that battery to put in the new MAF. No check engine light and drove about 25 miles freeway and city traffic and the DEQ said that even though the check engine light wasnt on, the code P0103 was still in the memory and I didnt pass. Ive checked the OBD webpage for audi/vw, and did pretty much all that was required, but if can get someone to clear the code, do I have repeat the whole drive cycle thing again?

The replacement hose always has the reinforced cover over it there, so very easy to spot if you have the correct version.

Clearing the DTCs will also clear all of the readiness bits, so the answer to your question is probably "yes".
