    Hey all,

Just checking opinions on this vehicle as a candidate for a diesel swap into a 1986 scirocco.

I have access to a 1999.5 jetta TDI complete car. It is wrecked but the motor, trans, wiring harness, display, ecu, etc. It is complete.

Would this make a decent candidate to go into the scirocco? From what I have been reading a 1997-98 makes a good candidate with either a 1Z or AHU. Not sure what this is yet. I will know on Saturday.

Anyway opinions as to good bad or indifferent are welcome. Thanks in advance!!!

1Z is from a Passat and AHU is from a mk3 Jetta. This engine is an ALH.

Thanks for the engine code. However, will this make a good donor for the project or is there something about it that makes it quite a bit different from a 1Z or AHU?

It seems to me that since I would be getting a complete donor car that I'd be able to bring everything over and eliminate having to rewire things. Rather I would just have to reroute wiring and figure out fitment for cluster, switches, and what not.

Are there any physical obstacles with this engine such as hood not closing, engine mounts not lining up, steering rack and downpipe not playing well together, etc.?

The AHU/1Z is pretty much bolt up if you use the stock tranny... if you use the AHU tranny (02A) then you can buy mounting brackets I think BFI sells them, so does NLS. I bought some off ebay germany because they were cheaper and look good when I recieved them. Then it will bolt in againw ith the 02A tranny.

I know for the rabbits/mk1s putting in ALH engine (1999.5+) is a fair bit trickier you have to do some cutting for clearancing certain parts... and use a BFH (big ****ing hammer) to help move other parts out of the way... and finally you have to fab up 1 motor mount because I am not sure there is any kit for that. The only thing is I am finding it kind of hard to find AHU donor engines. Mk4 TDIs are a dime a dozen and then aftermarket support is massive, not to mention they are easier to mod for power.

So there are advantages and disadvantages to each, but swap wise the AHU is way easier.

Thanks freestyle, exactly the type of info I was looking for. I am going to have to keep this at the research level rather than diving in. The donor car I have access to isn't going anywhere anytime soon so there is no particular hurry.
