One of my cars has the original vw code protected radio. Unfortunately the front faceplate of it is busted bad. I would like to replace it with the same radio(used), but I'm concerned about unlocking whatever radio I get. I'd hate to buy a replacement and not be able to unlock it.

Given the radio serial number -only-, is there anybody that could/would look up the unlock code?

Given the radio serial number -only-, is that enough information that the dealer can find the unlock code?

Don't have the replacement radio yet..checking in advance.

If you don't want to advertise this on your userid, im's are welcome.

Go to your VW dealer and give them the vin number of the car and the radio and they can get your the code.

i sent a response in a pm too but the dealer only needs the VIN and the AUZ number on the side of the radio, they dont need the car... and before you ask its called the AUZ number because it starts with AUZ... or at least it does on audis

I just did this with the cabrio 3.5 .
I found a single din MK4 stereo at the JY that I paid $10 for, took it to the dealer and after showing them my registration they gave me the code. They don't need the car's VIN. Just the serial number off the stereo, and some sort of proof that you own a VW.

By the way, 1stvwparts.com was selling stock refurbished radios for just $15 last year. I got two, one for the cabby, one for the corrado. And they come with the new radio code. It was an awesome deal, don't know if they still have some left or not. Call them and ask for Zeb.
