Sorry everyone I've become quite needy with SE Auto closed down. I'm looking to get the best price/shop recommendation for the following:

    DSG service
    Blower motor replacement
    CV boot replacement
    Fuel Filter replacement

I've been holding off on this stuff but can't really stretch it out anymore. I may still split up some of the work though depending on prices. If you can give me any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Derek is waaaaaay up North though right? Where's Epic?

Goodspeed has a nice facility, but if there's anyone with a lower hourly rate that would be awesome.

For DSG and blower motor, I would recommend Goodspeed; I trust them with anything and everything on my car. They are north Scottsdale though, so a bit out of the way.

CV boot, replace the whole axle. Trust me on this. And don't worry it's not that difficult.
Fuel filter is even easier than the axle!

Depending on the car, I could give a hand with the last two. I've done both on my '08 Jetta.

He is way north valley, but that is where I got my stage 2 REVO and engine/tranny mounts installed. Guy does fantastic work. Used to work for VW as tech.

Do not replace the whole 400$ axle because a 30-40$ boot tore. That's just absolutely foolish. If the axle isn't clicking and it's a rip or hole and hasn't been driven for months totally dry and exposed there is no reason to scrap the axle. But then again what do I know.

I would love to work with someone who will quote what the job takes to do, not what the book says it should take. A fair price is always appreciated I know a lot of these things can be done in half the time. Out of these shops, who is open on weekends? Am I wrong that I feel like Goodspeed is more an aftermarket shop and not so much into repair work? At least that's the impression I got when I was there.

Front driver's side axle on my '08 Jetta was ~$130. When I went to get the CV boots from BAP they had to special order them, came out about $70 I believe, and they ended up not even fitting right, despite being an exact part match in their system. I had to get a rental for the night and go buy a new axle in the morning anyways. According to what they told me there, the standard procedure with the new ones is an axle replacement.

I did have a boot replaced on my car be SE Auto and it didn't take the whole shaft. He did it in like 30 minutes. But obviously thats outa the question right now.

I have heard mixed reviews about Tunning Gruppe. Friendly they are, I just go there to get my Water/Meth ^_^

Yeah but that $130 is for an empi or FEQ axle that is total crap. OEM and Raxles are the only axles I would put in a car with any power. problem 2 is you we t to BAP and 99/100 of them are tards.

Let us know how long that empi axle holds up cuz with ANY abuse or even spirited driving. It's toast. I've seen them last 3 days, or 30 days...

But like I said, I'm just an Internet expert I dont work on cars anymore

Yeah IIRC it is an EMPI axle. It is seeing a good bit of spirited driving, for sure. I'll certainly keep an eye on it and report on any failures. I don't mind being proven wrong.

On the other hand, it's certainly a much less messy job replacing the axle vs a boot. If this axle holds up, that alone makes it almost worth it.

i could replace a cv boot with white panties, white gloves and a white smock and still not get greese on anything. how is it messy? was it your first axle?

Regarding the DSG service, do you already have that stupid filler tool? Or would I need to get that too. I hear they are a b**** to do without it. I think the fluid+filter is only 120 bucks on ECS if I am not mistaken. In a little bit I will be in the market to do mine

The axle was 130 because it was most likely EMPI and will fail. OE axles are far superior than any other supplier( besides raxles or drive shaft shop ofcourse).70$ for the boot is silly, as the correct boot from the dealer is about 50$ retail.

yes i have the stupid filler tool. along with every other auto trans filler tool for every dumb ass vw/audi trans that on the market. they are only a bitch to fill if you dont know what you are doing.

example: on a 1-10 scale, 1 easy- 10 hard: if i were to do the dsg it would be a .5, if you were to do the service it may be an 11 or 12. the ease of doing this job determines where you get your info from.

as for filling: i dont know why its filled through the drain plug. to me its ****ing dumb. just like the 09G 6 speed auto and that joke of a CVT auto audi trans, fillling should not be such a pain in the ass.

i have my own way of filling a dsg that was tested and confirmed with my R&D team (my BFF adam). its not that bad. let me know if you need help.
