Fuel Pump BLACK box under passengers side?

Well, i was trying to get my 1988 GLI Jetta 16V going..Won't start, so I checked all the fuel pumps..

Top one works...

Bottom one won't work, have no power to it...

While I was taking it out, the "black box" thiny that holds everything on it, and the fuel pump itself slides into broke .

I don't know what its called, but what a PAIN it was to take out...Now I'm high on fumes and feel like crap..


So anyone that can help this would be great for those two issues.

1) No power to undercarriage fuel pump

2) "black box" thingy that holds everything together.

Fuel pump housing. You used to be able to get them new, but I don't see them listed on German Auto Parts anymore. Search around the internet, you may be able to find a new one, otherwise you will have to search junkyards and classifieds of people parting out a 16V. You need the early 16V housing, the fuel pumps on the later ones were larger.

Awesome, I will see if I can find one used. Any idea on the "power" issue to the fuel pump?

Check the fuel pump relay.
