N00b here - wanted to say HI :)

Just wanted to stop lurking long enough to post a quick "hi" and introduce myself. I am in the market for a new auto to replace my "green vehicle" commuter car. At this point the only thing I like about the car is the gas mileage (45-50 hwy / 30-40 city). I'm growing tired of the lack of bells & whistles, incredibly wimpy acceleration (or rather, lack thereof) and the feeling I'm driving a plain-wrap automobile.

I had no thoughts about a VW until last Friday when I popped into our local dealership just to take a look at a 2012 Jetta TDI. I was underwhelmed with the interior looks though did not drive it until a few days ago. In a word... WOW. Love love love the TDI engine! Sadly, the Jetta still underwhelmed me so I looked at the Passat TDI SEL Premium and it was SWOON-CITY from the moment I sat down.

I haven't purchased... yet... but it's just a matter of time. I'm trying to decide if I want to wait for the 2013 model for the RVC since that is something I know will prove quite useful (and yes I'm aware it can be a DIY custom mod on a 2012 however I'm not handy enough to attempt anything of the sort myself! LOL!).

I appreciate all the information that's available in this forum here on VWVortex. I spent quite a while checking out various forums on the web and this has the best vibe, IMO.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks and introduce myself.

Welcome! Hope to see you "join the family" soon! TDI is an awesome option, agree about the apparent step up in styling from Jetta to Passat. I passed on a TDI Jetta wagon last year because I just couldn't get past the lack of... oomph, I guess. This year's Passat really pulled me in though.

Fuel efficiency was a major driver for my initial decision. I scratch my head now, how I got the least fuel efficient option.

Same here. test drove the TDI, then ended up in the 3.6. LOL!

Came from GTI so had to retain "because racecar" factor.

Same here, when I am at the pump it's always "Why didn't I get the TDI?" Until I bomb a highway on ramp or embarrass a kid in his early 2000's Mustang GT then it's "Oh yeah, that's why."

I too am a "want one but don't have one yet" - I need to go drive them soon enough, but everything I've heard about the car is great, I'm just torn between the TDI for fuel economy or 3.6 for oomph -- good luck!

The TDI is more COST sensitive! It'll pay off the difference in just a few years.

Not far. I just got over 400 miles on a tank. Mixed driving. You should have a few dealers near you to choose from.

TDi is the best option out there for those MPG conscious like me.. I commute every other week from North Dallas area to all over Houston. It's about 600 miles round trip and MPG was the first thing in the list. I'm achieving 44 mpg round trip ! Most of time over 80 mph.. I'm always going fast !
I love the Passat. Great car, look good, snarp, upscale, nice, moder and the torque and power is awesome.. Of course the 3.6 is a much much power and more fun too but MPG sucks if you drive fast and accelerate fast on every start like I do...
