No, that Civic is a terrible POS be glad you are not buying it.
Aw well one day hopefully you can get the Honda you dream of!

Lets pretend you are dealing with a person you don't really know/random stranger. Subsitute any vehicle you feel represents a poor value.
This stranger tells you about the cars he is considering buying including the new 2012 Honda Civic and how cool and amazing it is and what a great value a Honda is.
Do you give the honest truth or just a white lie.

Sent from my basement using two tin cans and a string.

Absolutely none of my business. I want to sell the guy insurance, not a car.

Unless I had a strong dislike for the vehicle, I'd keep my mouth shut. In the case of the Civic, I'm not really annoyed by it, compared to some other vehicles I could think of.

Who's mcTCL, are they a new member?Originally Posted by 2.0 ho

Maybe's he's upgrading from a 1997 Tercel or something? Who knows, maybe it is the coolest interior he's seen (it definitely different!).
It's not like it's a bad car... It might be boring and cheapened a bit, but it's still a Honda - it will last, it will drive decently, it will hold its value. Honda's are never bad moves... Often TCL favorites are the slow sellers, the future rust-piles, and the maintenance nightmares. A Civic isn't my favorite either, but it's none of those three bad things.

I have absolutely nothing constructive to say in this thread. Other than:
Longtime Honda fan here, and that car is so ultra-fail it hurts.

I would just tell him that it's not the best out there but it will likely hold it's value better than most, if not all of it's competitors. I usually try to tell friends or family members something positive about the car they are about to purchase unless it's genuinely a pos. A person should feel good about their purchase, so unless there is something really wrong with that particular Civic, there is no reason to rain on his parade.

I wouldn't criticize the Civic, but since he hasn't bought it yet, I would suggest other cars that I feel might be better. Just point out the positives of the alternatives without degrading the Civic, and perhaps he will take note. If not, well it's not the end of the world. The current Civic is definitely a downgrade from the last one, but it's not a bad car at all.

It's hard to buy a bad or unsafe car these days. If the Civic gets his juices going then all the power to him.
If someone came in saying they were stretching their budget and buying a known POS vehicle I'd probably suggest they looking into its reliability or do some googleing.

People were getting caught up outside the topic.
People talk crap online with no shame about some cars. I just wonder if they would do the same eye to eye.

I'd recommend the 2012 Civic to others all day long, just as I recommend Accords, Corollas and Camrys.
Most people (OK, almost everyone on the planet) aren't auto enthusiasts, and don't need to get into the drama we create on TCL. The Civic is a perfectly good car that will last for years, run reliably & cheaply, and maintain its value. Nothing more need be said.
There are no old Porsches - just new owners.

it's another open heart session with feelings boy.

I don't mind the dash so much, but I can't get past that steering wheel.
#17
It's not a POS, it just has ugly design.
The steering wheel looks like something from Transformers.

does this hypothetical situation perplex you in some way ?
if so, challenge said stranger to a friendly mock-trial debate
(bonus points for original research or acquiring expert testimony)
consider it a gentleman's duel to the death if you feel so strongly about your position
in all honestly its a great car

I drive a ****ing VW, i don't really have any room to criticize. Let the guy like his Civic.
I love all cars, I just happen to own a few pieces of german crap at the moment.
#22
Sure you drive a VW, but it's not designed like a couple of blind engineers made it.

punch him in the face.

if someone asks me about car research and what they should pick (if they deciding between few)
i give them my opinion and do not hold back,
but if someone tells me about car they recently purchased, but its not they car i would have recommended, i just say" cool car, if it works for you and make you happy, great"
i just cant bring myself telling somone that they bought POS![]()

The Civic is an intelligent purchase, just rarely a passion thing.
It is nowhere the best in class, but here, it is cheaper to own than an Elantra or a Forte. Even discounted from 16K$ to 13K$, a Forte is more expensive to own than a 16K$ Civic, with current offerings.
Also, like the Corolla, it is made in America. Both Corolla and the Civic are the best sellers in the compact scene.

I don't understand how anyone can think the Civic is a bad car, because it's not. Sure, it's not the best in class anymore because it's class competitors have really stepped up their game, but it's far from terrible.
I would tell them the Civic is a good car, but to make sure and test the field out to make sure their getting the most car for their money.

I tend to avoid these types of conversations. I'd probably answer with a simple, "okay" and leave it at that. I hate when people go around trying to tell other people how to spend their money. Only if it were a family member and they were looking at something with questionable reliability would I then speak up.
#33
The new Civic is a competent car that will drive from home to work and back without giving much trouble. That's all most people really want. There are certainly better choices.

What isn't true about a Civic being a good value?
Looks like this thread is backfiring on you. Ironic isn't it?
