Is this the same kinda thing at amazon but not all fancy?
I have also seen it made by putting coffee grounds into a muslin bag and put into a pitcher of water and soaked for many hours. Similar to how a tea bag works.

So, the wife loves cold coffee. Now most of you would say "just make hot coffee and add ice". Well, that's not exactly how it works when you want good cold coffee. I'm trying to replicate the Hario Cold Drip machine with readily available lab glass but don't really know where to start.
I figured I'd throw this in here and see who knows something about lab glass (meth lab anyone?)
Here's a link to the real one: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/produ...offee-dripper/
Amazon just launched a new site called AmazonSupply http://www.amazonsupply.com/ and they have all kinds of lab glass but I don't what I need.

I must be one of the weirdies because I like the taste of iced coffee from espresso shots with ice vs the cold coffee.

I'm more than happy to get into the intricacies of the taste differences of cold drip versus hot coffee turned cold but lets stay on topic and see if we can find me the pieces I'm trying to track down![]()

It should taste like an old 2 day old chilled coffee.
The coffee brewing process requires hot water in order to extract the flavor oils and acids in order to have that roasted nutty flavor.
By just running pressed water you're just hosing down the grind with water and there's no extraction of the flavor oils.
Why bother with this when freeze dried processed grind tastes pretty good and cheap. I never understood the whole K-cup thing when many freeze-dried grounded powder actually tastes better. Yes, I have an industrial K-cup dispenser machine at work and they taste like crap.

Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

impressive yes, but it's actually more expensive than the Hario I originally posted. C'mon folks, I know we can figure this out!

Just brew hot coffee and put it in the fridge. Can even put it in the freezer for a bit and then move it to the fridge. Or buy a blast chiller; it'll cool the coffee down real quick.

even better, just put your whole coffee maker in the fridge.

Man, you couldn't be any more wrong about this. No where does it say coffee HAS to be brewed hot to exact a wonderful flavor. I mean if that's the only way you can do it I guess Intelligentsia, Stumptown, etc, etc, etc are ALL doing it wrong. I'm not about "pretty good" and "cheap". If I wanted that I would just go to Dunkin Donuts. This process is the same reason I drink 18 year old Scotch or a 6 pack of Micro brew beer. I would rather have less of a great product than a large quantity of consumer grade crap.
For the record, the K-cup is the worst thing to happen to the coffee industry in decades, and Green Mountain just lost half it's value today too: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/04/bu...rply.html?_r=2

I would love to know of any progress you are having with setting this up. I'd really like to try a cup too before I plunked down the cash just for fun.
I'm assuming you have already spent a fair amount on a grinder.
Too bad something like the absinthe fountain couldn't be incorporated to make it look classier. I don't want that red plastic nozzle on my counter.
