contact previous owner for the correct key...

I bought this caddy recently and decided to give the fuel cap a try today. It is a locking cap and I have a keyring of unlabeled keys. When I first tried without a key, it would turn about an 1/8th of the way and only one side was stuck on. I tried a small key on the ring and it fit good, so I tried to unlock it and it actually made both sides latch. So now it is on even more than it was before and the key does not want to turn.
It also had a topper on it with a locking latch. The small key also fits this lock but it only turns slightly.
Can anyone tell me exactly how the cap is supposed to act or anyway I can get it off?

My guess is the internals are dried up and possibly seized... I'd spray some pb blaster into the lock slot and see if that helps out.
My locking cap on my 4-door was stiff/diffucult to open till I did that.

spray some WD40 or similar into the slot and try to work the key back and forth, see if it will free up.
If you get it off, throw it away.

Well, I got it off. I was trying to pick the lock and the one side popped back off. I had to pry the other side off. Definitely going in the trash.
Now I'm in the market for a cap![]()

I bought one of those cheap gas caps once. Stupid key stopped working, took a drill to it and I won!
