Dealer is trying Again to make a buck.
They told me the same with my silver on black 3.6.
A car is a car... Unfortunately these are not Ferarris.

I visited my dealer a few days ago when I discovered the mirror anomaly, and they said I'd be a fool to trade my car in for a CC because it is so rare. They said that approximately only 8% of 12' passats are 3.6 SELs. On top of that an even smaller portion are black/black, and it is rare that I have an early build without the spoiler since it comes from the factory many times with it already.
My question is, exactly how many black/black 12' 3.6 SELs are there? I'm curious if it is that rare. Every time I go they try to get it back from me but I actually like it. Especially with the wood knob, hinge cover, aspherical mirrors, and other mods.

I think the dealer is actually on to something. Consider this, to him/her they may only see a few 3.6 SELs compared to the number of 2.5 SE's they get. My dealer has about 75% 2.5s in mostly S w/appearance and SE trims. Considering the annual number of Passat's built, it is likely that 8% could actually be 3.6 SEL's.
There was a breakdown around here about the percentage of each engine, with majority of them being 2.5s. It was something like 60% 2.5, 20% TDI and 20% 3.6.
So there is a possibility that they are right.
As for the dealer trying to make a buck, I don't think it benefits them if you keep your car and not trade it in for a CC, when the CC is worth more than the Passat.

The dealer took a hit on my car up front; A big hit. They brought up the rarity because I was an early adopter of the passat and now that it has been out for nearly a year they have told me they only sold 2 3.6 SELs; i'll ask the askavwsalesguy, because I know the car is rare and I'm curious as to just how rare, regardless of what you "dealer is trying to make a quick buck" guys think..

I bet they have made more 2012 VR6 Passat then all of the VR6 CC's imported since 09.

I think you contradicted yourself, You say there's more 12' passat SEL VR6s then all CC VR6s, and yet you've never seen a passat SEL VR6 and you have seen CC VR6s. Seems like it would be the other way around if there were more Passat SEL VR6s... Maybe I'm nuts. I'm still going with rare.

So I started to wonder for real since no one had an answer how many black/black sel v6s are there?
Went to a different dealership (so it wouldn't be biased) and had the general manager look up the vin numbers of all black/black sel v6s from the nationwide database
There are under 100 nation wide which includes all that are sold, on lots, being built, or are slotted to be built.
Like i said; rare.
