I've seen the DIY on myturbodiesel.com and read that you can either fill the DSG fluid from the top or from the bottom. Filling from the bottom requires using the special filling tool (or DIY tool) and also the plastic snorkel.
I also read that you could fill the fluid from the top where the filter goes. Are there any issues/problems associated with filling the fluid from the top?
Can't you simply just drain and measure how much oil comes out of the transmission and then add that amount of fluid in from the top of the transmission?
Any info would be appreciated.

I changed oput the fluid from the top as per the replace what was taken out method on myturbodiesel.com. I will add a little more this time and let it drip from the overflow. have been able to get filters and fluids online at much better prices.![]()

I just changed my fluid and used the top fill method. Absolutely painless way to do it. It does take a long time to refill from the top, but that gives you time to clean up some of your tools and have a beer. Make sure you get the funnel in the DIY that fits the fill hole.

I'd stop drinking beer, but I'm no quitter.

I just had a quote from the dealer for the 40K service on my Golf at $596 and an additional $400 for the DSG service. The price for supplies was $250, delivered.
