I know these stories are sad, but they are also eye-openers and provide a learning experience for a few (not most). A friend and colleague of mine was killed two days ago on his motorcycle, hit head on when a Lincoln Navigator crossed the center-line. Just a few minutes ago, the news is reporting that the young man who hit him was talking on this cellphone while driving.

Please hang up while driving your automobile.

My sticker that I made years ago still applies (and are free to anyone who wants one)

The article says that he fell asleep, not that he was on the phone.

Our local news just reported on the radio that he was texting. Sorry for not linking the most current news page though.

Understood, it does not change the tragedy.

Hitting someone while texting and driving should carry severe penalties.

Pisses me off to hear about your friend.

    Sorry.

A guy on the highway nearly swerved into me as I was trying to pass him (on the right because I was tired of his inconsistent speed lane hogging the left) because he was yapping on the phone. When I got by him I motioned for him to hang up and he took that as reason enough to try and chase me down to tailgate me I find people perplexing

That is where I love my Yosimire racing exhaust. Anyone that wants to hang out close behind me gets bombarded by sound when I downshift a few gears and let them listen to my pipes! Not being as Harley, it is still reasonable at lower RPM, but at higher RPM, it will penatrate any cages sound deadoning and they will always back away and give me room.

On topic, you always have to ride defensive/offensive and be prepared to either back down and let those that want to go faster by, or offensive and power out of the situation. I hope the Navigator driver gets charged with manslaughter!

I'm thinking a visit from Tony and Guido with their ball bats should be included.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Andy. Stories like this always hurt me a little more inside, especially when it's not someone "anonymous" out there.

According to the article and the radio, the son and his mother were both arrested, the son was charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide, licensing issues, and failure to hold lane. The mother is being charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to drive her vehicle without proper credentials.

I don't get sad nor depressed with things like this because as motorcyclists, we know the risks. This could have been prevented from a few different angles though. His father is a good friend of alot of us (he used to be our Service Manager), so our feelings rest with him and his family at this point.

The cellphone thing is big around Atlanta now because local jurisdictions are individually banning cellphone usage (at all) while driving, so the local news is keeping this story at the forefront and fresh in everyone's minds.

I am SO very sorry to hear about your friend Andy, that is one of my biggest fears while riding on the street.

My version of your sticker is a bit more subtle.. but maybe I should switch to yours?

It's a tragedy and I'm sorry. It's also unfortunate that it's a trend that is not going to go away and will only continue to get worse. Especially amongst younger generations that are growing up with this technology and don't think anything of being on them 24/7.

Geez Andy, sorry to hear about your friend.
I'd like a few of those stickers as well. I'll even send ya some $ for them if you like.

I almost had the same thing almost happen to me twice on Thurs.
Then a guy turning right into my lane (far right) from a side-street never stopped at the stop sign, just flew out into the intersection. If I was a sec or two faster I would have bit it.
A long blast of the Hella 130+db Airhorns and "Look you f'n idiot!" sign and he got the message. and apologized (waved anyway)
