If you had camber in the rear without shims you have a bent rear beam.

I'm new to forums well not actually new, I've been searching on here but not as a registered member. I have a 2002 Golf GTI and what I need help figuring out is what can be causing my car to be fish tailing in the rain or like when I hit a bump with one of my rear tires the car will throw its rear end out in the opposite direction. I wish I could have been introducing myself on better terms but this has been bothering me for a while now. I forgot to mention that the rear end had really bad toeing and cambering, which I had to shim.

I have another question, so the car was wrecked and if the body of the car is crooked would that also be causing all my problems iam having?
#8
I guess I am just gonna have to go shell hunting..cause the motor only has 98000 miles.
#9
doubt the body is bent seriously.
listen, we have told you, rear beam time.

Check the rear beam before you decide the whole body is bad.

Looks like there is more to it than a rear beam.
Bumper does not fit.
Hatch doesnt seem to fit properly against 3/4 panel.
Pass Tail light looks like it sticks out.
Car sits higher on driver side.
Its fairly common for the bushings in the rear beam to fall apart and it will cause excessive movement in the beam. You can also "bend" the beam in various situations.
I have a beam that I can sell you, but at a weight of ~80lbs shipping would be intense.

looks like you have some work to do. As long as your frame is straight, it should all be fixable.![]()
