Man, I remember being a kid (I'm guessing 6 or 7) and getting the bus driver to play a friends License to Ill tape. We had to fight for the right.

Very sad indeed. It makes me feel much older when stuff like this happens. Back when you are a kid, you never think 'one day I will be older and the Beastie Boys will die'. You think musicians will always live forever.
One of my favorites, always in rotation in my house:

Throwing this up here because it's a dope song and MCA gives a shout out to Utah. He used to come out here all the time to snowboard.

Ill Communication is still my all time favorite CD.
I was hoping to still have a chance to see them live.
RIP...

Licensed to Ill was the first album I really fell in love with, I listened to it non-stop.
The tape is still at my parents' house.

Ill Communication was my first tape and I first got a hold of it in 2nd Grade. I would sit on that stupid bus ride and listen to it every single day and take in every genre, style, and musical influenced they managed to cram together in that epic masterpiece. I didn't realize it until many years later but absorbing that album at such a young age was the driving force behind my eclectic and diverse tastes in music. Got' Dayum.
I mean, for Christ's sake the percussion in Futterman's Rule is what drove me to pick up my first pair of drum sticks!

I imagine there will be a substantial amount of Beasty Boys on tomorrows party music rotation. RIP, good sir.![]()
