Rust Repair: POR15 and Seam Sealer

I have that spots under the sealant in the fender wells. Plan to buy some 0.025 wire. Brush on POR15 and use some type of seam sealer on top of the POR15. What type of seam sealer should I get? Something that will work with the factory sealant that already exists. And well a sealer stick to the POR15? Newb questions I know. First time doing this though. Thanx in Advanced. I there will b some haters that will say use the search button..

I've used the NAPA brand seam sealer; it is relatively inexpensive, easy for me to get a hold of, and has held up well so far. It sets up pretty quickly, so you need to tool as you go. As far is it sticking to POR-15... you have 2 choices, apply the seam sealer before the paint has fully cured or just give it a good scuff before applying the seam sealer. Lots of people complain about how difficult POR-15 is to sand... and I'm sure it is if you are trying to level it, but just scuffing isn't bad. It takes a few more passes to get rid of the gloss. I don't use POR-15 anymore though, as I've found Zero Rust to be far easier to work with.

I have removed most of the rust. There is a few spots I need to go over again. Im planning on using the POR15 to prevent any further rust after welding and patching the rust holes. Sand it a Lil and Seam seal the area.

i like the 3M seam sealer in caulking tube.

Wurth paintable seam sealer is fantastic. Can't recommend it enough.

Was thinking 3M. Gunna look around a Lil though. Thanx for the replies!!

Has anyone used POR15 and then put sealant over it before?? I'm going to try it and figure out out for myself if not...

i have not used por15 and used sealant over it....

there are two types of por15 also, clear and black

i can attest to the por15 clear being a pita to sand but it is entirely sandable with effort
it is also highly UV irresistant, sunlight WILL destroy it.

you need to use a chemical called metal ready which coats the rust with a zinc coating that the por15 attaches to


any kind of sealant should work if it sticks to the paint/por15
