Wow. Modern car safety is like a needle exchange program. They're still going to do it, just keep them from killing themselves while they do it.

This youtube comment had me laughing as my wife was trying to fall asleep:

      6:54 dropped your beer, sir!
I think I was pissing her off with the constant chuckling. I dunno, I can't help but laugh at that.

Whilst on vacation somewhere early 70's /end sixties my family also took a drive around the ring in our fiat 1600....my oldest brother who was given the drivers seat did , as the family legend goes, get the fiat on 2 wheels in a corner....wich prompted my father to urge my brother to slow down a bit..

Seeing this vid made me realise that i actually must be happy that i still have a family after that little drive at the Nurburgring.

I wasn't in the car that day, in case you wonder...

I just showed my kids this video, and explained to them the reasons to wear seatbelts.

Are you sure you know what you are doing? The video makes it look like you can roll your car, fly out the window, then just dust yourself off and be okay.

What was the car at 5:11 mark ? Looks a bit like Lotus, though I am fairly sure it isn't. It's not a 914 either.

haha I agree, this is not the film to show to ANYONE to prove that driving is dangerous. For the exact reasons you mentioned, this film actually makes drunk driving look safe

The idea behind sharing this youtube video, is to stress the importance of seat belts, and safety equipment.
Back in 1970 the use of seatbelts were not MANDATORY.

Nowadays, most tracks require the use of a full race harness, helmet, external 12v battery isolator switch, a fire extinguisher, and a thorough vehicle safety inspection, prior to using their facilities.

It's not a 914, no doubt about it. Not a Lotus either. My firs thought was that it reminded me of the Renault Alpine A110, but it's not a Renault... I really have no idea.

That's exactly the point being made!

If I were a little kid watching that video, being the smart-ass that I am, I'd question WHY does one need a full race harness and a helmet, not to mention a roll cage or any sort of crashworthiness in the vehicle structure, when you can just flip your crappy old stock car, fly out, and walk away?

(Obviously, I understand the need for safety; of course I wear a helmet even at a flat autocross course where I'm in no danger whatsoever)

LOl that background song is priceless, it fits the video well.

But why do so many of the cars have a bunch of junk in the passenger seats?

How many of these guys wouldn't have rolled if they had known proper driving technique once in a slide/spin off the pavement?
