A manual gearbox, while does gives the driver a bit more engagement, it does not change the way a car handles.

Every time I see the cockpit cam of a BRZ being driven around a track...everyone inside seems bored witless.

I can't imagine them being priced significantly differently. As such, the comparison is perfectly fair.

Did anyone think the BRZ would be an unstoppable track monster against cars with better power/weight ratios? I'm willing to bet it does very well in its own class in Solo II, if nothing else.

After seeing the track times of the Megane 265, I looked up the price in British Pounds, and it's about 27,000 GBP. The top spec of the BRZ in Britian is also 27,000 GBP.

The Megane 265 is a fairly focused, track prepared special edition, though.

The Magane 265 is far from an econobox, and it is probably the best handling FWD vehicle currently in production. Think ITR like handling, but with and extra 100 hp and about 150 lb/ft of torque more. If there's an econobox in this test one could argue it is the BRZ.

I came in figuering it would be the renault ,Tiff loves it I think it whipped a 370z on fifth gear

...and it's still a FWD hatchback that won't drive like the BRZ .

Why is the BRZ so popular here? It doesn't seem to be "great" in any way. What's the big deal about it? I see it in every other thread on here.

Take a Miata, give it a hard top, a usable trunk, and two small back seats all while retaining the same (if not better) driving dynamics.

      What's not to like?

It's just a bunch of amateurs who bought into the hype.

Basically anytime something RWD from Japan or Korea comes out its praised as the second coming of christ here not matter how mediocre it is they did the same thing with the Genesis coupe.

Don't forget how every ft86 fanboy was saying that it would be the ideal track car. Or that it was a purchase for people who did weekend track days. Or some other crap like that.

Now that we all know that it's as slow as I initially suspected, the goal posts have moved. It's now the superior "canyon"/"twisty road"/"non-competitive fast driving" choice.

It would make a nice sedated commuter, sure, but some of us want something more fun. There are easily just as many people here who love Miatas and lightweight sports cars in general as there are folks who love E39's .

So the car can be beaten by other cars. Not the point.

A well driven RX-8 can keep up with the flow on many tracks during HPDEs, the BRZ/FR-S should be able to do the same.

I can do that in a 4-cylinder Ford Focus. Your idea of fun sucks.

I do, but not that badly... not badly enough to drive to Dallas anyway. I think the car is great for what it is, but I'm quite happy with my Mustang for now. I'm actually considering P-cars after the Mustang is paid off .

And? So the E39 will be quiet and dull at 100mph. Where's the fun in that?
