want to change wheels so was wondering, what is the tallest tire that will fit a MK4 Jetta wheel well, front and back? looking at 215/75R15 on OEM steel rims. they have*6" tread width and are 26" tall.

why not. give me a reason why, i don't want opinions, want to know sizes.

    195/65R15, tread width 7.68", OD*24.98" is stock.
the only diff in these 2 are width and height. this not a truck tire by any means. i just want to know what the tallest tire is that has been on a MK4 without probs.

basically anything taller than stock will rub when the car is loaded, or hits a big bump..

and FWIW, a 215/75 will be taller AND WIDER than the 195/65s on it now.

you said the 215s have 6" wide tread, and you said the 195s have 7.8" tread?

well, the first number in the tire size, is 215, and thats the tire width.. 215mm.. thats more than 6" wide. thats more like 8" wide.

and 195mm, thats NARROWER. so, idk how a tire that is sized as skinnier, is actually wider..

anyways, open your eyes, get on your back, and check out your wheel wells, there probably wont be enough room to fit them on the car..

ok, i just googled a metric tire size converter, and these are the numbers you should have pulled up, not what you got.. anyways, heres the CORRECT measurements..

    a 215/75 is more than 1" taller BTW. (28.3x8.90/15)

    compared to a 195/65/15 (25x7.5/15)

the 215s are MORE THAN 3" taller, and over an inch wider..

you were saying that they were only ONE inch taller, and almost TWO inches narrower!

anyways, i DOUBT that those tires are going to fit your car without rubbing the fenders.. the fronts may even rub when you turn hard over, as well as with big bumps..

WHY do you want to jump to such a BIG tire size? going for that much bigger of a tire will probably DECREASE your mileage, FWIW..

well, i could understand if you could have gotten a set of 215's for ALMOST FREE, and had they been a closer size, it would have been worth it..

or, if you were trying to get a larger diameter to increase mileage, maybe, but there too big..

    245/45-17s are 25.5" tall, 11" wide..

    and a 195/65/15 is 25" tall..

so, idk what you were trying to compare.. because the 215/75s he was asking about, are 28.3" tall.. thats ALOT taller than your 245/45/17s, but not as wide..

i stand by what i said, i still think a tire thats 3 INCHES BIGGER THAN STOCK will rub..

when you increase tire diameter by .5 inches, like you did, i dont see rubbing being an issue. the actual tire diameter is almost the same, between the 195/65, and the 245/45 tire..

but, the difference between the 195/65, and the 215/75, is HUGE.. 3" increase in diameter is ALOT to me, when the tire is only 25" tall to begin with..

like i said, the 215/75/15s are ~28.5" tall

    the 195/65/15s are ~25" tall (215s are ~3.5" taller!!!)

and the 245/45/17s are ~25.5" tall...

theres a LITTLE room to increase your tire size, but not THAT MUCH.. lol

205/60s are about the same height as a 195/65 tho..

sure as hell a LONG ways off from a 215/75/15...

    195/65/15 = 25x7.7/15

    205/60/15 = 24.7x8.1/15

    215/75/15 = 28.5x8.5/15

so, yea, a 205/60 is SHORTER than the stock size.. thats why it fit fine.

THEY ARE STILL TOO FRIGGEN BIG!!!

why do you want such a HUGE tire under your car?

trust me, if you install them, they are gonna rub, and there gonna make your car look LIFTED.
