  1. 05-05-2012 09:19 PM #1
Every time I hit the voice command button on my steering wheel, and the womans voice says "MAIN MENU" - it is SOOOOO DANG LOUD!!! I can't find a setting anywhere to default it to a lower amount...

Nowhere but the volume control itself. Be sure your bluetooth is turned all the way up on your phone, hit the button, and turn the volume knob to change the volume of the voice.

Yep, I have the same issue. Whenever I accidentally hit the voice command button and hear the three note chime, I brace myself for the "MAIN MENU!" shout. Settings don't help. If I leave the volume adjusted for a phone conversation, the voice prompt is too loud, and if I make the voice prompt normal level the phone conversation is very quiet.

I wish there was a way to turn that button into a mute button. The voice commands are next to useless.

Especially when it's someone you haven't talked to for a while.
If it connects you, you better pretend like you really wanted to call them.

There is. If you use VCDS there's a setting in the BCM to disable it on the steering wheel. It will still work in the overhead console if your car is equipped. Best part, when you disable it for voice commands, it turns it into a mute button for the radio. At least that's how it works in my 2011 Jetta. I haven't done it in my 2011 Golf.

So seriously, there's no simple setting to just turn her default voice down? Just seems really wrong the designers of that system would have it SO LOUD.

    Press the voice command button
    Say "settings"
    Say "short dialog"

It gets rid of the question, unless it can't understand you very well...then it will still ask.

    Yep.

Also if I am understanding this thread correctly, in the Bluetooth module in VCDS there is an option to change the phone button on steering wheel to a mute buttton and then the one on the overhead still works? Sweeeet.

I think it is in 16-Steering Wheel.

I too just re-noticed this problem. That is bad enough. But combined with fact the same main volume is also the call volume, amd call volume is consistently low (on latest 9w7), its really irritating. Combine with the dropping out of BT stereo audio after 3 seconds of silence, and a couple other bothers, i miss the simple proper function of the 9w2 i upgraded from.

Im sure this has been said.....

but you can simply adjust the volume whenever the voice talks, the volume bar across bottom of my nav is green rather then red for radio.

Except that green volume is also in fact the call volume. So turning loud lady down makes calls too quiet, and vice versa.

Uncheck Steering Wheel Module (16), Byte 01, Bit 3 "Multi-Function-Steering-Wheel (MFSW) with Push-to-Talk (PTT) Button installed"

I guess i dont see the issue..LOL, I just turn volume for each and everything up or down whichever thing im using. sorta common sense i guess?

I do understand the complaint fully though, and im not sure of any way VW could have made it better then simply being able to adjust it.

I was happy when i found the green volume when she speaks, cause originally i never knew it could be changed at all..lol

lol. Haven't had a chance to check yet. I was out of town for a long weekend and I haven't hit up my buddy with a VagCom yet. I've really been thinking of ordering my own since my wife and I both have VWs now.

I used settings to set "short dialogue" but it made no difference to anything...

On a related matter, who else find's the 9w7 in-call volume to be rather low? I can barely hear people on the other end at times, even with volume all the way up on phone and car.
