Pretty sure dude admitted it was dumb. Pretty sure the whiney ones are the ones who bump threads that have the same thing being said over and over and over again.

I would tell your friend to either meet up with you to hand you the $100 deposit that he still owes you.

Otherwise, have him send it to in the mail. (Tell him all that requires is putting the $100 bill into the mailbox again, but this time, it goes into a sealed envelope with your name and address written on it, plus a 44 cent forever stamp... yes, it's that easy!)

That's what I would do if I were in your shoes. I would also buy the friend a beer since he's out $100 for being a bonehead and putting it in his mailbox.

Because It was $100, not 2. You'd have to be a complete narcissist to think you deserve a $100 tip for delivering mail.

I'm not singling you out, and how that makes me a "tool" I don't understand. The thread was pretty much dead, and you came in calling him stupid.

you could ask to go speak with your local postmaster. note the date it happened. be aware that nothing will likely come of this, but the management should be aware in case other things have gone missing in the past with other people. unfortunately, you can't even prove it was the mail guy unless the box is keyed...it could have been anyone...

Also, it is possible that someone saw the $ get put in the mailbox and decided to take it. My dad delivered for 20+ years and he said anyone who would steal and risk their pension/job/etc etc would have rocks in their head.

given what a US gov't pension is worth...stealing a hundred bucks would make you borderline retarded...things don't surprise me any more though.

That is about as correct a statement as I've heard in a LONG time. NOTHING does surprise me anymore.

That's all you can really do I suppose. However, how are you going to to handle this situation with your friend (who technically still owes you the $100 deposit)? Also, did you already give him the bike?

Yeah, I gave him the bike in advance so he would have a way to get to school/ work a bit faster. The rest of the payments l just get cash in hand. The hundred is gone, if my friend didn't ever really put the money in the box and lied to me... Shame on him, if the mail man took it, shame on whoever that is... Call me soft but its not worth chasing around for it..

And the thing is, that would amount to admitting to committing a federal crime.

Didn't catch this yet but isn't it illegal to us a US mailbox for things that aren't mail?

yes. little items typically are just ignored, but if a business is out stuffing mailboxes, they're going to get ass-kicked for it.

i work with a lot of political campaigns and inevitably some moron volunteer will always just be lazy and stuff lit in mailboxes instead of knocking on doors. then the campaign gets yelled at. ugh.

Lady in our neighborhood got nailed for it with her missing cat posters. Felt bad for her but I remember as a kid two things NOT to do.

    1. Put anything other than mail in a mailbox

    2. Steal political signs (man we got our asses chewed by the cops)

certainly hasn't stopped folks...those things are freakin' expensive too...you're talking 4-5 bucks a pop easy on a smaller race with a fancier multi-color sign.

Does switching Republican candidate signs with Democrat signs count? I mean we didn't steal them, we just changed people's minds about who they were backing.

Um, usually when my mailman sees new mail in my box, he takes it since it is outgoing and replaces it with the incoming stuff. If the bill was in an envelope, go to the local post office and see if it's there.

Tipping based on your income makes no sense at all if you ask me, so no I don't think so... Let me know the next time you tip your mailman $100. Pics or it didn't happen.
