Hey guys, figure i would just start posting up my progress slow and steady. My name is Art im from Maple,Ontario,Canada . Picked up an 88 cab, when i drove it back home i looked over everything and was terribly dissapointed with everything the car with, so in turn i just started to make progess this weekend. I picked up this car kinda like a gift for my parents(but more then likely will drive it more myself lol). I will try and update this when possible.

    Problems:

      Dirty engine bay
Dead tranny ( Bought O2A Conversion)
Wiring dissaster ( in progress ) finally finished
Charge piping looks like junk (gonna look like that until i get money for a proper front mount
      Corrado seats are shot, sold
      Interior/carpets/headliner are destroyed
Paint is faded red ( In progress)
      Install AEM Wideband
      Fab 2.5 Downpipe
      Buy porsche scripted handles
      Buy chrome flag mirrors
      Mount on wheels and tires
      Buy Hybrid oil pan
      Paint calipers
      Buncha other stuff.

I will let the pics do the talking from Saturday mind you i started at 9pm and finished at 1am (lots of beer drinking and food involved always.)

"The beast" ancient but works like a charm

    prep for uninstall

    Out and on the ground

Welcome, from another Ontarian! I recognize that car... It was up for sale for a while here on Vortex.

When you get it running you should come out to some of the meets!
    Doing it right is overrated.

More updates from today... big thanks to my buddy dan who has been working his job and coming after work and helping out.

    Bye bye pos 9A Tranny

Motor with O2A bolted together and ready to drop in:

After some time fighting with it:

New vaccume hose and cleaned up with new fuel lines and new fuel line clamps (prev owner used worm clamps like a donkey.)

New pcv pipe and routing... it might not be the best but it will work.

    More Prev owned butchery...

What it looked like by end of the day, its not wire tucked(and looks messy to some) but it all makes sense to me and its done right.

Nice job man, this is the project I want to do next after I finish up my yellow cabby for my daughter. Keep up the work. I hope to have mine back on the road soon. Almost ready for paint.

Some more updates from today, im kinda pressing my time as i have quite a bit to do around the house still, re-seal driveways, misc house cleanup, get rid of scrap metal, get rid of garbage, re-organize garage and still get this car up and running by friday night, I've ordered the VR6 eurovan cable convresion from europe vw and now i play the waiting game.

The beggining of my day looked something like this, i slept in and had no drive because it was overcast and weather seemed like junk:

Pulled the carpet out and starting making it look presentable:
    Before

    After

Nighttimes rolled around and the mastermind behind all the wiring came by and started hacking away at it.

And how it looks in store from tomorrow...

While wiring doesn't scare me, it's just a tremendously daunting task that always takes 4x longer than you expect it to!

Crazy busy with life and all of the things it has to throw at you, very minor updates, more wiring done and some misc upgrades.

a nice sized fmic which is totally stealth behind the grill(gotta put the car on the road and drive it over to a performance shop i deal with so he can weld me proper plumbing with nice couplers and t-clamps):

    Dirty:

    Clean:

    My trio of guages setup:

Fuel filter just some rubber hosing and a c-clamp its sturdy as heck:

And.. the amount of useless i pulled out:

    Update: no pictures... haha

So today i finally got everything all sorted out, tried to fire up the car and BLANK... click click but no start, scooted the car down the driveway to maybe free up the flywheel, and it turned over and died out click click... gonna rip out the starter tomorrow... any other ideas ? Grounds seem to be good with no issues, the starter clicks but doesn't turn over... only once in a blue moon.

Got it up and running, wiring looks good inside the bay, wired up the power recaro's and they both work, interior wiring getting cleaned up slow and well.. battery relocate to trunk for TEMP sure..

4 hours of sleep yesterday night and 10 hours of work today + cabby progress, pics with updates tomorrow.

Oy there CabrioVR! I am diggin the project! Makes me wanna get a cherry picker and clean out my bay too...

Hey, I noticed that the interior of your top when it was dirty looks almost identical to my top's interior. How did you clean it and what did you use? Everything else in the interior in my Cabriolet is super clean with the exception of the top and it has been driving me crazy since I bought the thing! Haha

Another small update since i ripped out the blower because it was useless along with the little inlet duct from the raintray. I painted them wrinkle black and they look awsome but its too dark and i can't take any more pics.

    Before:

    After:

And my engine bay distribution block, battery is now in the trunk.

To the comment above with "how to clean" i dunno mines took a crapload of time i used some multi-purpose cleaner solution with 5:1 dilution to make it pretty strong a couple of micro-fibre towels and a mr clean magic eraser haha. Hope that helps

Haha, yeah, I bought some all purpose purple power, and was rubbing and it took forever to clean one tiny spot, so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong or had the wrong stuff. Looks like this is just gonna be a pain to clean in general then...

Some very small progress as the pace of this project has slowed down and some other priorities have taken over so...

The painted dummy covers for the air duct and blower motor.

Fired up the car and well... almost died bahahaha i hate anything that says "made in china"

Small progress on interior wired up the power recaro's and started piecing together the interior

The Temp battery holder soltuion, and well my wheels that it will be sitting on teaser they will be sent out and refinished

The rest of the wiring will be cleaned up and finished tonight

So the car threw me a curve ball.. oil seal is shot in the turbo and its pissing oil everywhere.. i had to sell the recaro's to help easy the pain on the wallet, im trying to get this car finished on a budget. I will invest money into it further onwards. Got my clutch actuator from Vw germany... using a HONDA clutch cable i knew those cars had to be good for something

Hondas are also good for 12mmx1.5 thread radius seat lug nuts to run factory VW wheels with a stud conversion.

    Do work!

The K04 setup can make some serious power, but watch your boost levels. They still aren't designed to crank out high boost levels and hold up well doing such.

Haha thanks for the heads up, it wouldn't be my first time toying with 1.8t's with higher then normal boost levels, hell if it blows up well then... Its just another reason to go gt28rs haha =p

so some very minor updates, i got my high flow manifold and tires for my car, now i just have to wait until my last 2 wheels come back from the wheel repair shop, 2 bends. Just some minor pics to keep this thread going slowly... *sighs*.. if money were never an issue. Now just waiting on turbo and then i can fab up the downpipe and put this car on the road... sighs..

Wow a long time since the last update, well umm work has been bull****. Working 10 hours a day for 6 days a week left me with no time for this gem. I am going to be taking some time off to get this car finished asap. I bought some go fast goodies because i didn't like seeing that little tiny hair dryer sized turbo. I am going to tackle the paint tomorrow and see if i can restore it, if not i will be taking some wild input as to what color i should wrap it with. Pics to come later tonight.
