I'm getting my KW V1's in the next month or so. K04 TSI is planned for a month or so after that. Please tell me it's awesome - please! I want to know! I'm also thinking K04 over the Stage 3 turbo as the lower end seems better in the K04 (better for just booting around town) and should be sufficient for the occasional track day. And obviously there is a big price difference between it and Stage 3 turbo setup. I don't think I'll miss the last bit of top end power of the Stage 3 turbo upgrade, but WTF do I know...

I love my K04!! I never say to myself "I should have bought the Stage 3" Its all the power I really need. what am I really going to do with more then 350-360Hp on the street. I used to track my R32 a lot but I maybe go to the track once a year now. So for the money you can't really beat a K04!!

    I hope that helps!!

Congrats redlinerob. I like your style. ibis and titanium is the best the car can look from the factory IMO. 2.0t + quattro FTW.

Yeah, that helps like a hole in the head - ha ha!!!!

Is your car FWD or Quattro?

I'm trying to figure out the DP part of the equation (I have quattro), but I guess I should just go ATP and be done with it? Or perhaps B&B??? what did you do (if anything) with the rest of the exhaust?

My car is Quattro. As far as DP's are concerned, now that the golf R is out there are a lot more options. APR, 42 DD, ATP(I have), B&B, Miltek.

Also I'm running a Miltek cat back.

    2012 A3 Quattro
    05-09-2012 01:12 PM #50
Same here. I got a 2012 A3 quattro without the open sky. It's rare in general to see an A3 here w/o open sky. However, I have no regrets. I don't know if it takes away from the head room, but I hated the perforated holes in the blind. Made the car way too bright. Dont plan to tune it though in the near future. I had a 2005 WRX and that was tuned/modded. It was fun, but the mod bug bit me and I couldnt stop.

man i cant wait to start tuning it! the quattro makes a huge difference off the line i can allready feel the grip

That's not true, so stop saying it. By your line of thinking, the only car to ever have quattro is the original Audi "Ur" Quattro. The transverse engines with AWD (A3, S3, RS3, TT-S, TT-RS, Golf R, etc.) use Haldex, regardless of if it's called "4motion" or quattro. Just like with the Audi longitudinal engines, there are various AWD configurations (Torsen, crown gear, etc.), all of which are called "quattro" and all of which deliver power to all four wheels, but do it differently. Sure, the Haldex based systems are the least like the original permanent AWD "quattro" system that Audi is known for, but quattro is just a name, not a specific AWD configuration.

What's the matter with NOT wanting open sky?

I specifically custom ordered my 2009 A3 without the open sky! Surveying local dealers back then, I found only about one in 10 on the lots had no open sky and they were invariably plain vanilla stripped down FWD configurations. I, too, appreciate the increased head room plus I get motion sickness with a wide open a sunroof - the moving shadows of trees, etc. affect me adversly. Even though I'm not a sun worshipper, I've had sunroofs in past cars - and most of them leaked eventually. But I would have bought an A3 with a REAL sunroof! I do like the tilt the back up function for ventilation and I would always use a solid sun screen. That flimsy mesh sun screen on the A3 sky roof is a real joke!

It's interesting to note that in my travels to Europe since I bought my A3, I saw only about one in 20 A3s with sky roofs in Germany, Czech Republic and the UK. Sky roof is just a gimmick for North America IMHO.

The bugatti veyron's awd system is made by haldex. Does that mean that it uses 4 motion?

Seriously though, the awd system on our cars, as we know it, debuted in both the audi tt and the vw golf in 1998 so they are equally quattro/4 motion. I don't understand the hate on the a3q's, I've driven it on some of the worst road conditions possible short of rally racing the car and never had a problem. Ive also driven a stock mk V gti with fwd and that car couldn't grip on hard acceleration from a standstill to save its life, in dry conditions.

    If haldex awd = 4 motion then fwd audi's = vw's???

You can still use APR's DP with stock cat. Milltek has a turbo back system but I haven't heard from anyone who has it. As far as B&B goes people have said it is pretty loud puttin around town but okay on the freeway.

4 motion was viscous fluid differential. So you can say VW and Audi converged to Haldex. If any car that is like the VW 4 motion, it would be the R8.

If you examine a VAG-COM scan of the 2012 2.0TQ the descriptive name of the Haldex is "4motion".

Yeah, but isn't that due to a 3rd party software developer's naming convention?
