Advice needed on front jack point repair on mk2 golf/gti.

I've heard from several old school (1970's) VW techs that repairing front jack points on mk2's is a risky option.

Given that cutting out rusted areas and welding in new panel may compromise body stress point; plus some areas are double walled.

Area around donut jack point is rusted through.

Has any one done repairs successfully on that area?
