I'd like to use theft resistant license plate screws on my CC, the kind that require hex key instead of a screwdriver. Has anyone purchased a set that works with the CC?

My current plate screws seem to just be drilled into the bumper cover. I've found these theft resistant kind on Amazon but people either love them or complain they don't fit.

    Thanks!

LOL.... Believe it or not, I have already had one plate stolen and it wasn't personalized. Just the standard white one. You actually have to GO to the MVD and pay $5 to get a replacement.

Now I have an awesome Centennial plate and I just had this thought, if "they" steal the plain ones, this one is pretty attractive. Buying 2 hex screws is an easy, cheap deterrent.

Funny thing is that my partner's Honda came with these hex screws.

Ah ok no worries about that. I'd say go for em man although with a little work I think anybody can steal your plate, but I see nothing wrong with making them work for it. Sorry about your previous plate. btw I think i've seen the new centennial plates. Don't they kind of look like the carls jr logo from far away?

Oh man... you're right! Now I want it to get stolen! J/k ... I really like the plate. To each their own I guess. Seems that AZ has around 20 plates to choose from. Leave it to the wild west.

I know it'll just offer a slight deterrent. I guess I'll order some screws, see if they fit. I wish the holes in the bumper were more "formal", not just drill holes in the fiberglass.

awww dude I wasn't making fun of it. I just seriously saw it at first while driving with my wife and said that's that tag that looks like carls jr lol. As far as the tag i agree I wish vw would have done something a little more formal with it, but as long as it works who cares btw paul when are you going to make it out to one of the meets. You should go with me and rob to the next cars and coffee. Saturday we ended up getting beers after before heading to goodspeed maybe we should start making a meet out of it lol

I picked up a set of what they call security torx. You can get it at the regular Autozone or a similar car store.

I would rethink this strategy. You definitely do not want them to tear it off. Maybe just get 2 plates the next time you are down there? At 5 bucks, it is going to be less than the cost of the screws and mounts, and certainly less than someone ripping the plate off forcefully.

Reminds me of what my dad used to do in his shop. He left the cash register drawer open at night so thieves wouldn't destroy it trying to find out if it had money in it.

Good point. Didn't think of the physically ripping the plate off approach.

Unfortunately, for specialized plates, it's $25 per plate and a wait for it in the mail. The $5 was for the standard ones that they have a drawer full of at the MVD.

I used these to secure my plate in 4 places.

After drilling the holes, I squared them with a small file. The nylon inserts fit very tightly so it will take extreme effort to remove the plate. The very rigid Stainless Steel fame will also give thieves some grief.

Finally, I glued the covers over the bolt heads to make it cleaner looking.

My main reason for having 4 mounting points is because the plate fits closer to the bumper and IMHO, looks better.

Also, I have seen cars going down the highway with the rear plate flapping in the wind. There is no way of knowing if your plate does this unless someone you know is following you at high speeds.

Thanks.... this would work perfectly but at $8.35 for two bolts and tool plus $11.35 to ship two screws and a tool via UPS, it's a little pricey. Almost the same cost as a new plate. It would probably make more sense if I needed other stuff.

    I appreciate the info though!

Thanks for the info. Now you make me want to take a drill to my bumper. I have to wait until I'm sure I'm going to buy this car at the end of the least (leaning toward it). Yours looks great though!

Since you have told me to stay off of your threads of advertising, I will tell you the same thing regarding regular members threads.

Stay off unless you can offer us something as inexpensive as a regular auto parts store can. I paid approximately $4 plus tax, but no freight for all 4 of my bolts.
