Was driving along one day and heard a faint ticking sound when on throttle even out of boost. No one could hear it but me since I drive the car everyday and noticed the difference.

Needless to say I put the car on the lift and started going at it with a flashlight while it was running to see if I see/hear anything. Nothing at all from the tailpipe forward until i get to the engine. I look straight up at the turbo and see a little black gash in the pipe. IIRC it's not even at the weld but in the middle of the pipe.

Now my question to you guys is:

I'm about to tear down to get it out and go from there. Should I try to weld, reinstall and then brace somewhere, or should I spend and change setup to a log manifold?

I'm willing to bet it cracked because the original setup wasnt braced, and had the turbo sitting topside. However, it did last 2 years of abuse, so maybe if I weld and brace it, I'll get a bunch of more years out of it.

i think braces cause more problems than they cure. I say clean it properly, weld it well, and make sure your motor mounts are good.

That's what I was figuring to do. My motor mounts are good, but they are factory on the engine and tranny side. BFI Stage 2 dogbone, so there is a fair amount of movement which you can see in my old dyno vid. Maybe I should upgrade all 3 to something a bit better.
