    i cant find this anywhere

i recently picked up a 92 cabriolet with a clipper kit that i had to repaint and install

i took off the factory metal bumpers assuming i could reuse the 8 bolts that mount the bumpers to the frame rails but come to find out they're too small

does anyone know the size needed to install the clipper kit?

    thanks

Sounds like you bought a car that someone had removed the clipper kit and installed euro bumpers, not stock US metal bumpers. I say this because I've tried installing euro bumpers with the US hardware and had to go out and buy the 8mm bolts for the euro brackets. My best suggestion is to take one of the brackets off the bumper beam (if you can, not real familiar with clipper kits) and take it to the hardware store with and try bolts until you find what fits.

BTW, post pics of the bumps you took off, or of the car before you took them off. If they are metal euro bumpers, please DO NOT THROW THEM OUT!! They are worth good $$!! Worth more than what you should have paid for a used clipper kit.

I would still prefer a pic of your car or the bumpers from your car.

And I guess I might still not be quite understanding....

    You bought a 1992 Cabriolet.

Someone had removed the clipper kit and installed metal bumpers and you're trying to replace the clipper kit?

You did not get the bolts to hold the clipper kit bumper brackets to the body and the 8mm bolts that held the bumpers that were on the car don't fit the clipper kit brackets?

bought the car with the metal bumpers

guy included a clipper kit with the sale

went to change them and the bolts were swimming in the holes of the clipper kit

or is there supposed to be something within the metal bracket that fits inside the frame?

The bolts that hold on the stock clipper bumper bracket have 19mm heads on them.

Since we don't know about what bumper you had on there, all I can say is to find some 19mm bolts that match the threads of the clipper bumper brackets.

It takes 4 bolts to properly connect the bumper to the frame.

[edit:chg from 17mm to 19mm cuz of beetle.freaks correct info]

It does say on cabby info, that if you want to use an older bumper on a clipper car, you have to purchase bolts to fit it.

    Euro bumpers

There are two types of Euro bumpers: small metal bumpers (a smaller, lighter version of the USA bumpers) and plastic-over-metal bumpers . RPI, Concept1, Oldskool Industries, Rabbit Parts, etc. sell these Euro bumpers. The black plastic bumpers can be painted to match the car. If you order the plastic bumpers be sure to request that they include the fender mounting clips and check to see if the lights are included.

Note 1: You cannot use the USA bumper bolts. You will need to purchase M8x1.25x25 hex bolts as well as matching washers (best to use one larger washer with one smaller washer).

Actually I'm looking at a set (clipper bumpers) in the top of the garage and I'm seeing 3 per bumper mount : 2 for the b-mount to frame rail (19mm head, 12mm x 25mm 1.5 thread pitch) and 1 for bumper rebar to b-mount (19mm head but unsure of length, pitch, etc)....that's why I was asking witch bolts we're talking about.
