What version of VCDS are you using? What year/model car and what interface? What color is the LED on the interface when plugged into the car?

Hey guys, im no expert on cars. ive been trying to get the tool to scan, however i guess my car falls in the couple years that there is an issue iwth the k-wire being looped or something like that... in the case it is, does cutting it right on the back of the connector fix that? im starting to wonder if i cut in the wrong place because its still not communicating. Just want to make sure that youre supposed to cut it right at the harness (or near)

Sorry I should have mentioned, im actually using an OBD2 reader, figured it still belonged in this forum considering the issue is regarding both and i do plan on getting a vag-com reader very soon. So i would like it to work with both, as it should I believe
I have a 1997 Golf CL 1.8l (canadian model?)
Purple outlet, so i assume its obd2, plus the bentley manual only mentions obd2 and everything after 96 should be, though ive heard stories of some being obd1 still

Here is the how to check the K-line as far as the aftermarket radio problem, and it explains how to test to see if the K-Line is shorted to ground:
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/aftermarket-radio.html
hope this helps
If you end up not having the radio problem but have a short in the K-Line, you'll have to unplug the different modules untill you get a proper connection. Before all this though, check fuses and such.
..and get a scanner for VW, your scanner will most likley only show the generic OBD2 codes, VW/Audi have a bunch more DTCs that won't show up with a generic OBD2 code reader. Good luck!

You can't point me to a thread that might have answers to my questions?
Its not the aftermarket stereo thing, i snipped those wires. So my questions are still left unanswered? if you believe its in the wrong forum, you can move it or send me the link to one with information thats helpful, why are you requesting for a lock?
Its still not reading, like he mentioned, i have to knock down modules, one at a time, could you add to that a little by mentioning a few more?

Are you guys like 12 years old? Instead of yelling lock, why wouldn't you just let me know that mentioning another brand isn't allowed in this forum?
My post is related to vagcom and i plan to get a vagcom but i can't because my connector isn't reading.
There is absolutely 0 reason to lock if the people in this forum were a little more helpful

Here's the issue...
We will not assist with communication problems with other diagnostic tools. This forum is sponsored by Ross-Tech for users of VCDS.
VCDS might be more helpful in determining your communication problems. The options screen will display the status of the K-Lines:
You can also scan other modules to see if its an Engine control module problem vs a shorted K-Line.
Have you tried contacting AE for assistance? Are you sure its not your hardware? I'm sure this post will be locked soon since it violates our rules: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-VAG-COM-forum
