Anyone know the amount of boost to expect from the turbo when operating properly? Thinking about installing a boost gauge...is it worth it?

The size of the downpipe/exhaust can affect peak boosting as well.
For the record, mine was 2.5" dp to a 2.25" exhaust.

Somewhere between 10-12, with a closed waste gate and stock fueling around 15 will be ur max u need more fuel for more boost

It is always a good idea to have a boost gauge, you can never have too many gauges telling you what is going on.
Plus if you plan on upping the fuel, thus upping the boost, you will want to know what is going on.

Where's the best place to tap in a gauge line off the turbo?
#9
Just T off the intake manifold vacuum line. You get a more accurate reading that way...

Does anyone have pics of where they tap off foor boost? I'm tapping off the little vacuum line that comes off the turbo body and goes to the injection pump......reads slight vacuum most of the time (2-3"). Gauge does work......I checked. Any ideas?

That where I had mine, check your air filter

There is no way you should ever see vacuum, nothing in the diesel system makes vacuum naturally. Your gauge is broken.
I have had mine T'd from that line for years, never once seen vacuum.
