Black damper on the back of the rubber intake tube...make sure it didn't split at the seam.
All manifold bolts tight? Downpipe bolts?

Have been working on a 1992 Corrado vr6 n/a engine, finished installing BVH, timing Chains, tt268 cams and tt chip today. Started the car and it ran great but it is much louder at idle that it was previously. The additional noise seems to be coming from the front of the block/intake and it sounds to me like exhaust sounds. It is most pronounced at idle, and the car is idling steady. Checked the spark plugs to see if any were loose and they were all tight. I expected it to sound a little different but I am not sure if this is normal noise or if I may have done something wrong. Took it for a drive and it drove fantastic. I could probably get a video if needed.
Thanks

Probably just the lifters, let it run for a bit it should go away.

i would imagine if it was a fresh head it wouldn't tick that long. When i put my head on it ticked for maybe 5 mins but if you took it for a drive, then i would rule out the valve tick idea....

If it's a ticking sound, and not exhaust sound...
1. Run engine until fan comes on at least once.
2. Run at 2500rpm for two minutes

Doh...makes sense if the BVH wasn't the original casting.

Thanks for the quick replies. The lifters did make noise initially but that went away after a few minutes. This noise is different. I did purchase the head from another vortexer, my original was pitted bad. He said it was obd1 and I didn't see any extra ports but mabye I missed it. Where is the SAI? All bolts were tight to my knowledge. After posting last night I thought about 3 possibilities:
1. Obd2 head with extra port.
2. Head is cracked between exhaust and intake and exhaust is passing thru making the noise.
3. Head is not tight to the block somewhere along the front of the engine.

If it is in fact an obd2 head, the port will be dead center of the head below the lower intake manifold. If its obd1 it should not have one at all.

Bolts to the lower intake manifold and plugs the SAI hole. I had a Penny in mine, it only lasted a day before it was blown out and I got the plug.![]()

Looks like its obd2. Like the plug, where did you get it? Are there threads in the port?

#15
Not sure my lower intake has the hole it bolts to since its obd1.

Ok will get a plug. Just for my own curiosity why is exhaust coming out the Sai? Tried searching around but only found how to delete and fix but what does it do?
