Thread: Help with AWD Conversion needed

  1. 05-08-2012 01:30 PM #1
Please move in the correct section.

I have a Golf MK2 I would like to convert to an AWD setup obviously for better handling / traction issues.

Are there any made conversion kits, or has anybody done this conversion?

    1. Costs of the kit
    2. Times it will take to set it up on a Golf 2

Me and somebody here in South Africa are going to be doing this conversion...

I know it has done before and I saw a 9 second quarter mile golf 2 on this conversion 600hp with very little traction issues and a 0-100 time of low 3sec.

I'm not sure how much experience with welding/fabrication you have but this is quite a task to do this.

If you can weld/fabricate the hardest part will be finding the parts. Im not sure how common syncro's are in SOuth Africa but you can use the syncro out of the mk2/3 passat if you cant find a jetta or golf donor.

but you need to cut out the exhaust tunnel and raise it to make room for the axle to travel the length of the car while still having clearance for the exhaust.

and also you need to weld in the rear crossmember which the rear differential and axles attach to obviously.
