having done this myself, i can tell you:

the entire piece of plastic encasing the speakers can be removed, just do that instead, trust me it's much easier to deal with after that. that whole "stepped-up" section of the dash. just pops off. then once you pull that out of the car, you can seperate the trim piece from it easily.

Yea.. Check my posts... I actually thought the wood trim was real.

I didn't bother posting the Carbon trim or even take worthy pictures of it. When the put it on, it made the car feel like a matchbox car. It looked totally fake. As in look close and you can see the print pattern. The wood is not like that. I'm so glad I'm out of my Passat and I didn't want to pay to swap it back out. So... Here you go.
