"I hate the car scene... It's pants & full of condescending pricks".
"So many people think they're better than the next person if they don't have a certain car". (- wise man)

Hopefully, by the end of today [or the end of this week], I can be a part of this thread hah. It'll give me a good reason to use my MKIII Bentley manual...

I've owned 3 MkIIIs... my first was a '97 Golf GL TD, had it 6 years, 256K KM.
My second was a '95 Jetta TD, 2 years, can't remember milage.
My current ride is a '99 Jetta 2.0L, bought it at 165K KM, odo is almost at 325K KM since February 2009. Rust has been a bit of issue, but nothing that some sheet metal, rivet gun and rust paint hasn't been able to fix so far.![]()

I bought my '97 Jetta GL six days ago. I'm trying to decide what to do with her, perhaps a short shift will be the first move.

Done pretty much everything over the years....
Still love it....183000....
Texas sun has eaten the paint, but the inside looks like brand new
Owned lots of other cars along the way but never dumped the "black bomb"

I've owned mine for seven years. Makes me sad that I never did much to it, but I'll do that with the next car I get.
#87
Just over 2 years, still trying to save money to dump into it but this year has been expensive.

Owned two mk3's. First one, a jetta, I owned for about two years. My current I owned a little over two years now. Second owner.

I bought my first one in '01 and had it until June and I think about 130k miles. Spent more on repairs than the all other costs of ownership combined, including purchase. I blame crappy dealer service for the first few years for things not getting fixed properly.
One of the few times I took it out in the snow:
Decided that was fun, so I just bought another one with low mileage from the original owner. He never modified anything, and took incredible care of it.
