    Hey all,

I have a month-old black mk6 GLI with swirls that are bugging the heck out of me. I made the mistake of not educating myself on proper car washing techniques on a black car (I now know the two-bucket technique using grit guards, but it's too late as the swirls run rampant throughout my car). I tried removing them myself with meguiar's swirlX but to no avail. I'm getting to the point that i'm willing to pay to have them removed and hopefully do my best to maintain it afterward, all for the peace of mind. So does anyone know a good detailer shop they can personally vouch for?

Everyone's needs and wants will be different. Expect to pay at least $100-$150 + tip for detail services. A black car is not easy, by a long shot to remedy. I learned the hard way myself.

Oh I so feel you on this man. As much as I love VW's black metallic pearl, I don't think I'd ever get a black car again.

Another question, where is this guy located?

Judging from your photos, I believe you! It should work out for me too since my gf is in Oakland and I'm there every other weekend.

Thanks again for the referral. I just PMed him.

    Thanks for the referral, Leo.

I will add that's a very discounted rate. That's actually what most "detailers" (there's a reason that is in quotes) charge for a craptastic detail. Expect to pay about double that for an effective detail from a competent detailer (especially on a black car with tougher clearcoat) to actually remove most of those imperfections and not just hide them with a glaze like your average corner-shop/craigslist "detailer" does. It might sound like a lot, but you either pay now or pay later. That glaze comes off after 3 or 4 washes and seems like you've introduced more swirls back into the paint (when in actuality they've just become unhidden), thus causing you to think you need another "detail" from the guy you used, and the story repeats with the incompetent detailer getting more of your money over time with much worse results than just having it done right the first time.
